JOB TITLE: Public Safety Officer REPORTS TO: Public Safety Manager POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Public Safety Director/Manager/Supervisor, the Public Safety Officer (PSO) will assume all duties assigned that ensure the protection of VVGMC, its assets, business and property. In addition, the PSO will be responsible for the safety of employees, patients and visitors while on hospital property. The PSO shall maintain professional working relations with staff, patients, visitors, vendors, law enforcement and all local first responders. The PSO will be responsible for performing security-related duties (i.e., regular patrols of the property; ED and/or main entrance postings for security intervention and observation, employee escorts to vehicles, responding to codes, making citizen arrests when necessary, completing daily and incident reports, assist with emergency preparedness exercises, video surveillance). It is important the PSO develops a good working relationship with all staff and maintains a positive, professional attitude and appearance while on duty and in uniform. Performs all other duties as assigned. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Minimum of one year of experience as a security officer or security guard preferred. Minimum of one year of hospital security experience preferred. Basic knowledge of a computer and report writing is required. Previous Law Enforcement, Corrections, PC 832, and/or Administration of Justice degree or classes preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: BSIS Guard card required upon hire. Violence Prevention & De-Escalation within 90 days from date of hire. BLS within 30 days from hire. HICS courses IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 will be completed within the first two years of employment. HazMat certifications preferred.
