Description Job ID SM9959-2401-1867 Position Classification FT Staff MAP Position Summary To provide proactive police enforcement, to safeguard life and property within the University community. Ensure compliance of all State and Federal Laws, City Detroit parking and Ordinances, University Policy and Procedures, and Department Policies and Directives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patrols campus, providing security to all individuals on university property; checks and maintains security to all buildings and grounds. Provides security services (unlocking cars, starting stalled vehicles, emergency weather notification, unlocking/locking doors to buildings, etc.) Monitors facilities and reports any problems to Physical Plant for repair. Investigates university criminal or traffic complaints/concerns. Deals with parking concerns and enforcement. Assumes specified responsibilities in the Director's absence. Attends training sessions or meetings required by the Director. Monitors students working security during assigned shift. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum Qualifications Education – A high school diploma or GED Employment - Five years to seven years (Equivalent combination of education and employment). Preferred Qualifications Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the university for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A professional, patient demeanor that promotes a positive impression with co-workers and the University Community. Must have strong organizational and administrative skills, a good work ethic, and a positive attitude for interacting with other people. Strong communication skills, verbal and written. Computer proficiency in MS Word/Excel/Access is required with a strong computer aptitude for learning various computer applications. Must be adaptable with ability to accept and support change, highly skilled at multi-tasking and detailed orientated, able to effectively work independently or in a team environment, and able to work well under pressure. Demonstrate a professional demeanor and a clean well-groomed appearance that creates a positive impression with customers and coworkers. Must be dependable, reliable, and confident working in a professional environment. 5 Years experience in Law Enforcement at State, Federal, or Military service with discipline in Law Enforcement. Excellent Organizational Skills. Excellent Presentation Skills. Exercise Independent Judgement. Self-Motivated. Strong Interpersonal Communication. Demonstrate ability to resolve conflict providing an acceptable resolution. Effective time management skills. Ability to digest policy & procedural information and effectively communicate them to employees. Physical Requirements Job requires repetitive lifting of light weight objects with frequent bending and stooping, or repetitively lift average weight objects where frequent bending or stooping alternates with lighter activities. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Work Environment Regular exposure to unfavorable conditions such as weather conditions, or confined, noisy, or dirty locations. Licenses/Certifications Valid Driver License in good standing.
