Description
Position Summary: The Cahuilla Shuttle Program is launching its first year of service. The Shuttle Bus Driver provides safe, courteous, and reliable transportation services for Cahuilla Tribal Members and local community riders in accordance with established schedules and routes. This position is responsible for ensuring passenger safety, vehicle care, and positive rider interactions. The role is anticipated to transition over time to a full-time position. Primary Responsibilities: • Operate the shuttle bus along assigned routes and schedules, ensuring safe and timely transportation. • Assist passengers as needed, including elders and individuals with mobility challenges. • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle interior and conduct pre- and post-trip inspections. • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or mechanical issues promptly to the Operations Director/Manager. • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain a clean and orderly vehicle. • Comply with all traffic laws, safety protocols, and program policies. • Accurately log ridership data and submit required reports. • Provide professional, courteous passenger service, including assistance for elderly, youth, and riders with mobility needs. • Participate in training, safety meetings, and community outreach as assigned • Assist with community outreach to promote shuttle usage and gather rider feedback. Qualifications: • Valid California driver’s license: Class B with passenger endorsement required. Ability to obtain as condition of employment may be accepted. • Prior passenger driving experience is preferred, especially with community or public transit services. • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community members, including elders, youth, and individuals with disabilities. • Familiarity of the local geography and community is a plus. • Knowledge of DOT/DMV rules, ADA requirements, and transit safety standards preferred. Physical Requirements/working environment/schedule: • Work schedule is 20-30 hours per week. This is a part-time position (Monday thru Friday). Weekends as needed. This role may occasionally demand working hours outside the standard timeframe to meet community needs. • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. • Shuttle Driver may be exposed to elevated noise levels during operation; must maintain a safe and orderly trip for all passengers. • The primary work duties will consist of transportation; however, you will be in an office environment equipped with computers, phones, and other essential office equipment as part of work environment and requirements. Background Clearance Requirements: • Successfully pass background investigation and livescan fingerprinting • Clean Driving record • Clearance must meet eligibility under Cahuilla Band of Indians vehicle insurance. • Pre-employment Drug Screening. • Cahuilla/Federally Recognized Native American preferences apply.
