Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As Publications Lead, you will own all Bold.org Publications, including the Bold.org blog, expert research collaborations, scholarship guides, and more. You will lead a team of freelance writers, ensuring that everything we publish is the absolute most authoritative resource on the internet for our audience of students and donors.
Your key function in this role is to be the owner of publication quality. Your goal is to ensure that everything we publish is a 10/10 for readers in terms of its trustworthiness, how compelling it is, and how easy it is to navigate. You will design the writing and editorial policies necessary to achieve this, and will train and adapt your team of 3 freelance writers to achieve this.
In this role, you will report to our SEO Lead, incorporating SEO best practices into our publications processes. You will be responsible for traffic growth goals across Bold.org Publications.
This is a great role for a strategic editor who understands how powerful authoritative content can be for driving growth, and who wants to own the entire lifecycle from data-driven ideation to measurable business impact.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • SEO & Growth Strategy. You see publications as a growth engine. You have hands-on expertise in SEO first principles, including keyword research, content optimization, and performance analysis. Fluency in tools like Semrush and Google Search Console is required.
  • Editorial Craft. You are an exceptional writer and editor with an obsession for quality, clarity, and consistency in brand voice. You know what makes an article truly helpful and engaging.
  • Data Fluency. You are comfortable diving into performance data to extract actionable insights. You use analytics to make strategic decisions about what to create, what to update, and what to cut.
  • Project Management. You are highly organized and can effortlessly manage a complex content pipeline, deadlines, and multiple stakeholders using tools like Asana.
  • AI Acumen. You are up-to-date with the evolving AI landscape and can thoughtfully integrate relevant tools and strategies to enhance content creation, efficiency, and optimization without compromising on quality.
  • Bandwidth. You’re very good at getting a lot done quickly with excellence.
  • Resourcefulness. You thrive in the chaos of startups and love making complicated, uncertain things simple.
  • Communication. You give and receive feedback directly and easily, and you’re generally great to work with. Our team is globally distributed, so strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.
Responsibilities

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and scale the end-to-end publications pipeline, from ideation to publication and analysis.
  • Own your core responsibility of ensuring everything we publish is the most authoritative resource on the internet for its target audience.
  • Own the goal of growing organic traffic to the Bold.org blog.
  • Design and operate the Bold.org publications process and calendar, iterating on our editorial steps to ensure everything we publish is a 10/10 for readers in terms of its trustworthiness, how compelling it is, and how easy it is to navigate.
  • In addition to publishing new resources, regularly review and update historical resources to ensure they meet our quality standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage our team of three writers, working with them to achieve our quality standards for everything they publish.
  • Implement on-page and technical content SEO initiatives, using tools like SurferSEO to optimize for search intent, CTR, and E-E-A-T principles, growing Bold.org as the most authoritative resource for our topics.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive analysis, and performance tracking using Semrush and Google Search Console to identify new opportunities and inform publications strategy.
