Conduct research to source the best products and
suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and
quality. Build and maintain good relationships with new
and existing suppliers. Keeps up with market trends
and chooses products. Assesses budgetary limitations
and customer requirements and decides on quantity,
type, range and quality of goods or services to be
bought. Helps negotiate contracts with suppliers and
specifies details of goods required. Looks at ways to
improve supply networks, and presents new ideas to
the senior management team. Ensures that delivered
items comply with the order, monitors the quality of
incoming goods and returns unsatisfactory or faulty
items, monitors performance and makes sure targets
are met. Works closely with merchandisers who allocate
stock and develop sales forecasts. Maintains records
and prepares reports as necessary.
