Job Title: Purchasing/Procurement/Buying Manager (Metal Recycling part of the Metals Commercial Team)
Location: Hybrid Office Nr Peterborough 3 days / Home or Travelling to sites 2 days
Reports to: Commercial Director

KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Proven experience. with supply contracts, metal materials, management accounts and post contract revaluation are desirable.
  • Ability to analyse performance data, market trends and optimise sales strategies.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across both internal and external teams.
  • Strong leadership and team development abilities.
  • Knowledge of waste management regulations and compliance requirements is desirable.

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Purchasing Manager to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the procurement process, ensuring that all purchasing activities align with the company’s strategic goals. This role requires a strong understanding of supply chain management and logistics, as well as the ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers to secure the best possible terms for our organisation.

EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably within a similar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain principles and logistics management.
  • Proficiency in using procurement systems, with experience in Oracle EBS or SAP being highly desirable.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of securing advantageous contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess supplier performance and market trends.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also demonstrating independent decision-making capabilities.
  • A degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.

    Pay: £60,000.00-£65,000.00 per year

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all aspects of the trading of metal materials
  • Deliver the monthly metals tender process and any additional ad hoc sales tenders.
  • Oversee customer relationships and account management, ensuring strong partnerships.
  • Ensure the successful fulfillment of all supply contracts regarding quantity, timing, and performance.
  • Provide business performance reporting, identifying key trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Drive process improvements by collaborating with commercial and operational teams.
  • Ensure compliance with Waste Duty of Care and International Waste Shipment regulations.
  • Develop and maintain effective data management systems for metals trading activities.
  • Lead and develop a small team, ensuring appropriate training and performance appraisals.

DUTIES

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies that optimise costs and improve efficiency.
  • Manage supplier relationships, ensuring quality and timely delivery of goods.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers and assess their capabilities.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to achieve favourable terms.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to forecast demand and manage inventory levels.
  • Utilise systems such as Oracle EBS or SAP for procurement processes and data analysis.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues that arise in a timely manner.
  • Prepare reports on purchasing activities, trends, and forecasts for senior management.
