Qualifications Job Description Overview Under the direction of the Purge Operator Lead, the Purge Operator is responsible for all aspects of car purging, including inspection, care, and maintenance of equipment used in the purge process.   Responsibilities * Responsible for purging hazardous chemicals from ISO/ tank car by use of proper control device * Visually inspect the tank car/ISO for leaks or defects. Before starting the purge process and report any deficiency to Supervisor * Ensure that ISO/truck/tank car is positioned and secured properly at the purge rack. (blue flags/wheel chocks/ grounds) * Maintain operation of pumps and equipment * Operate loading ramp and position correctly for safe access * Connect hoses from the purge rack to ISO/truck or tank car * Secure tank car, ISO and tank trucks for safe shipping * Will be required to perform Valve Tech duties * Must be able to read and understand purge procedures, customer procedures, forms and other written instructions * Learn Bubble leak per (Customer and VLS procedures) testing and pass written and technical examinations * Filling out customer and internal forms * Adhere to all VLS and AAR safety standards * Performs other duties as assigned * Work with Operation Supervisor   Requirements * High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience * Rail car cleaning or ISO tank cleaning experience required * Able to follow directions both written and verbal * Knowledge of the use of hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, ratchets, etc) * Ability to work 6 days a week 6:45am-4:30pm  * Mandatory weekend hours * Must be clean shaven for PPR * Able to work at a height of approximately 15 feet * Able to lift up to 50 pounds * Tank car loading experience preferred
