THL Gourmet Foods Inc. is one of the leading importers and distributors of Asian food products from the Pacific Rim and other regions of the world. We are currently looking for a passionate QA Assistant to support the QA Team.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the QA Manager, the Quality Assurance Assistant plays a key role in supporting Management, Purchasing, and other departments in all matters related to Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance. This role is also responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Food and Cosmetic Safety Quality Systems. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and a strong communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment.

REQUIREMENTS/ MUST-HAVES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Quality Assurance, Nutrition, or a related discipline; OR College Diploma in Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance.
  • Knowledge of the Food and Drugs Act and Regulations, Canadian food labelling requirements, and related compliance standards.
  • Experience in food safety, food labelling, or internal audits (asset).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data entry.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and prioritization skills; able to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities

Food Product & Label Development (70%)

  • Prepare and maintain QA documentation (product specifications, ingredient/allergen lists, Certificates of Analysis, labelling, and food safety records) in compliance with CFIA and Health Canada regulations.
  • Update product labels to meet new Canadian food labelling requirements and review artwork for accuracy.
  • Conduct market research and collaborate with suppliers to obtain detailed product information.
  • Partner with vendors and cross-functional teams to ensure timely and efficient communication.
  • Maintain records including test reports, food safety certificates, and compliance documents.

Administration (28%)

  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints and product non-conformities.
  • Support product hold and release processes, inspections, and sample preparation.
  • Ensure QA and food safety documentation is current and properly filed.
  • Maintain departmental tracking systems and reports.

Other (2%)

  • Support sample purchases and deliveries.
  • Perform other QA-related duties as assigned.
