NDT Level II QA Position Description & Responsibilities

  • Performs predetermined methods, operations, setups, and prescribed specifications for QA inspections and tests required to substantiate conformance to drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Conducts surveillance audits in all phases and stages during ship repair.
  • POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Lifting
  • Maintains internal contact with Receiving, Safety, and Production
  • Outside contact includes sub-contractors and government or Navy personnel
  • Witnesses or performs and documents (I) (V) and (G) point inspections and other tests at key points in the work process.
  • Creates written records to document the inspection results and provide supporting documentation to the Test and Inspection plan.
  • Ensure all QA inspection equipment being utilized is calibrated and certified under the company’s calibration process/programs.
  • Technical knowledge in using various measuring devices.
  • Evaluate results from tests and inspections to determine acceptability.
  • Has the authority to accept, reject or rework defective or malfunctioning units as per procedures?
  • Responsible for managing OQE documentation for work assigned to them.
  • Responsible for receipt inspections
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to ensure correct materials and proper fabrication and installation procedures are utilized during the production process.
  • Perform monitoring and surveillance of shipboard production processes for compliance with standards requirements.
  • Research standards and specification requirements to develop monitoring/surveillance plans.
  • Organize and report test results.
  • Perform specialized inspections.
  • Performs and reports work in process observations/surveillances/audits to provide an overview of adherence to work specifications and the effectiveness of the Quality Management System
  • Performs non-destructive testing as required by specifications, NAVSEA Standard Items, process control procedures, or other, technical documentation (when assigned these duties)
  • Review all Work Specification items, drawings, technical manuals, NAVSEA Standard Items, or other contract documentation to ensure all Testing and Inspection requirements are identified or captured in the TIP.
  • Preparation and distribution of weekly QA metrics
  • Creating and tracking QA-related required reports.
  • Creating and tracking of QA related CFRs
  • Performs other duties/tasks as assigned by the Structural QA Manager/NDT LV III

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 to 6 years of Quality Assurance inspection experience or equivalent trade-related related.
  • Certified as a Non-Destructive Test Inspector Level II (includes VT, PT, MT)
  • Must be able to perform the essentials of the position including the ability to work at heights, enter tanks, voids, and cofferdams to perform competent personal duties.
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders, work around moving machinery and perform tasks while using a sky climber, or scissor lift.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, military standards/specifications, Regulatory Body Requirements, and Shipbuilding Specifications
  • Possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements.
  • Skilled in blueprint reading, precision instrument utilization, and technical manual interpretation.
  • Able to set, self-calibrate, and use assigned testing, inspection, and QA instruments.
  • Fundamental problem-solving skills
  • Computer literate, ability to use Microsoft Office products.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, resourcefulness, and good judgment in dealing with others.
  • Visual Requirements - Must be able to pass a Standard Jaeger’s Test chart for near vision acuity reading J1 letters or equivalent with or without corrective aids and pass a color vision test using Ishihara’s Test for color deficiency.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Meet the requirements to obtain a DoD Regional Contractor Badge and requirements for access to U.S. Navy/ U.S
