DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post Secondary Education/Training in Food Safety is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 1 year work experience as a QA Technician in a food manufacturing facility (preferably SQF certified); relevant experience in a bakery production facility may be considered.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety standards and experience with GMP, HACCP and SOP’s.
  • Food Safety/HACCP certificate would be an asset.
  • Practical knowledge of quality control methods and process control techniques.
  • Ability to work well with a team and other departments, including Supervisors and Management.
  • Well organized and demonstrate effective time management skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Highly organized and team oriented with great communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills (including Microsoft Office), report writing skills including summarizing.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Confident and able to work independently on the night shift (with support from on site Production Supervisor; offsite QA Supervisor if required).

Responsibilities
  • Monitor GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), ensure they are being followed and maintained by all employees.
  • Conduct pre-operational daily checklist; perform inspection of premise.
  • Monitor and verify on-site CCP (Critical Control Points) daily.
  • Examine and hold ingredients & product that do not meet the proper specifications.
  • Perform monitoring of all in-process as well as finished product for GMP and HACCP compliance; inform Supervisor for any non-compliant or deviations during production run. Record all the findings on daily QA check form.
  • Ensure that all ingredient and product are handled to prevent any risk of cross-contact during storage and production process.
  • Report on a timely manner all food safety related concerns or issues to QA Supervisor (direct report).
  • Perform root cause analysis for all non-compliance issues and ensure proper corrective actions and preventative measures are being done.
  • Follow-up non-conformities to ensure that deficiencies are being corrected properly.
  • Conduct GMP, Food Safety and allergen training to all newly hire employees and current employees annually, including re-training employees with regards to GMP implementation.
  • Communicate with incoming QA Technician during change-over of shift.
  • Calibrate tools and devices as scheduled.
  • Participate in Internal food safety audits, mock recalls, customer complaints, and investigations.
  • Inspect dry ingredients storage to ensure all are properly labeled, tagged with receiving and expiring date, stored on the designated racks. Allergenic ingredients are segregated that will prevent risk of cross-contact.
  • Help to improve on Stuyvers food safety management and quality control systems.
  • Monitor on-going housekeeping to ensure there is no food safety risk; prioritize tasks based on food safety risk assessment; work in conjunction with Sanitation team when required.
  • Strict adherence with WorkSafe BC regulations and Health & Safety program, internal company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
