The QA Tester Lead plays a critical role in ensuring that all software products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and reliability. This role combines hands-on testing with leadership responsibilities, overseeing QA processes, mentoring QA testers, designing test strategies, and working closely with cross-functional teams including product, development, and operations. The QA Tester Lead is responsible for establishing QA best practices and ensuring timely delivery of error-free software. Key Responsibilities 1. QA Strategy & Planning Develop and own the overall QA strategy, test plans, and quality benchmarks. Define testing methodologies (manual, automated, regression, smoke, performance, UAT). Identify risk areas early and proactively align with product & engineering teams. 2. Team Leadership & Collaboration Lead, mentor, and guide QA testers; assign tasks and monitor progress. Conduct regular QA review meetings, sprint planning inputs, and retrospectives. Provide technical direction on best testing practices, tools, and workflows. Collaborate with developers, designers, business analysts, and project managers. 3. Test Case Development & Execution Create comprehensive test cases, scripts, and scenarios based on requirements. Perform functional, integration, regression, API, UI/UX, cross-browser, cross-device testing. Ensure complete traceability between requirements, test cases, and defects. 4. Automation (if included in role) Identify opportunities for automation and select appropriate frameworks. Oversee automation script development and CI/CD integration. Maintain automated test suites and ensure consistent coverage. 5. Defect Management Log defects clearly with reproducible steps, screenshots, and evidence. Prioritize, triage, and follow up on bugs through to resolution. Provide daily/weekly QA reports and quality metrics. 6. Process Improvement Continuously refine QA processes, documentation, and workflows. Implement best practices such as shift-left testing, test standardization, and quality gates. Contribute to overall process optimization across development and delivery cycles. Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills Strong knowledge of QA methodologies, tools, and processes. Expertise in test case design, scenario analysis, and defect management. Experience with testing tools like Jira, TestRail, Postman, BrowserStack, Selenium, Cypress, Appium, etc. Strong understanding of SDLC, STLC, Agile/Scrum. Experience testing APIs, mobile apps, and web applications. (Optional) Automation experience with JavaScript, Python, or Java. Soft Skills Excellent communication and documentation skills. Strong leadership, decision-making, and team-mentoring abilities. High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects. Experience 4–8+ years in QA, including at least 1–3 years in a leadership or senior role. Experience in leading QA efforts for mobile and web applications. Experience working in fast-paced agile environments. Preferred Qualifications ISTQB or other QA certifications. Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines). Performance testing exposure (JMeter, LoadRunner). Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
