Position Summary: The technician is responsible for testing and inspecting product to ensure conformance to physical, metallurgical, rheological and electrical properties required by customers or by the Company. The Lab Tech may also maintain, troubleshoot and calibrate equipment as required by the Company.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or four year Chemistry degree or related science.
  • Understanding of basic components of testing methods including calibration, verifications, possible interferences, etc. with demonstrated ability to explain basic principles behind the test methods
  • Working knowledge of basic safe practices in the lab such as making reagents, common chemical hazards, proper chemical disposal, etc.
  • Education inclusive of studies of one or more of the test methods listed below are preferred; having demonstrated ability to provide an explanation of the general principle involved in a particular technique and list some of the key points that need to be covered when performing a given test.
  • Must be able to follow written instructions and standard test procedures necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate observations to the development engineers and QC Lab Manager and in order to positively engage with all members of the Metalor team including those outside of the QC Lab.
  • Technician must have thorough understanding of the Metalor Technologies USA Quality System and Company policy of customer satisfaction.
  • Technician must be able to read Metalor Technologies USA procedures and processes, as well as record results legibly.
  • Position requires good math skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail is a must
  • Absolute accuracy in data entry is required
  • The incumbent will be required to pass method error analysis statistics before operating the analytical equipment
  • The technician also will be required to complete an annual Gauge R & R.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices
  • Knowledge of LabWare LIMS and SAP is an advantage
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, is an advantage
  • Able to work on a flexible schedule to meet customer requirements. This could include Saturdays or evenings.

EXPERIENCE:

  • One or more years experience in following laboratory procedures.
  • Experience with Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Spectroscopy, Ion Chromatography, Particle Size Analysis, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Titration, Viscosity, Surface Area Measurement, Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Thermo Mechanical Analysis (TMA), SEM, or Color Analysis is preferred.
  • Completion of ICP or AA spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, particle size or rheometry training courses are a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Following all Metalor and OSHA safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Performing work assigned by the QC Laboratory Manager for the analysis of metal particles and raw materials including testing, verifying and interpreting data
  • Operating laboratory equipment in a fully satisfactory manner so that required tests can be accurately performed.
  • Maintaining a clean work area and equipment
  • Preparing nonconformance reports for internal and purchased materials.
  • Identifying characteristics outside specifications, or show statistical trends, objectively.
  • Training others in the testing and inspection procedures.
    Job Type: Full-time
    Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
