What are you waiting for? Apply today! The Role We are currently looking for a QC Level 1 Inspector to join our team at our Fabrication Shop in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. This position is perfect for someone who takes pride in precision and has a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement. The QC Level 1 Inspector will play an important role in supporting daily shop operations and ensuring all fabricated components meet OCL’s and our clients’ quality standards. Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly rate Benefits package after 90 days including extended health, dental, vision, travel, and paramedicals (50/50 employer-employee split) LTD, AD&D, life insurance, and dependent life insurance coverage Vacation and stat holiday pay totaling 10% of regular wages Cell phone allowance or company provided cell phone A company provided laptop Weekly pay (Fridays) Job Duties/Responsibilities Perform visual testing (VT) on welds and flag any defects Communicate with welders after VT to identify defects, explain corrections, and confirm repairs are complete Log welder IDs and VT results in SpoolFab for traceability Verify weld IDs on piping match the drawings and weld maps Ensure welder IDs are stamped or marked correctly on all piping Check heat numbers and ratings during fit-up against the master MTR log for compliance Log heat numbers in SpoolFab Generate NDE requests (RT/UT/MT/PT) as required Verify consumables, filler metals, and shielding gas match the applicable WPS Update and submit inch-tracking sheets to management regularly Review shop drawings to ensure dimensional and squareness checks are completed for each spool Scan and save shop floor drawings for documentation control Redline drawings and weld maps in Bluebeam when necessary Witness welder qualification tests and ensure records are properly maintained Support hydrotesting by verifying hydro packs, witnessing tests, and confirming records are complete Verify welder tickets are valid and qualified for approved procedures across projects Ensure shop procedures are followed — rod sign-out sheets, oven temperatures, etc. Understand and sign off on applicable ITP checkpoints Inspect pipe flanges for condition and compliance prior to shipment Verify all spools are tagged properly and report ship loose items for transfer Assist shop personnel with simple client specification requirements Report shop issues or nonconformances to management in a timely manner Skills/Experience/Qualifications CWB Level 1 Welding Inspector Certification 1–3 years of experience in a fabrication or industrial construction quality control role Knowledge of ASME, CSA, and API codes related to welding and pressure piping Familiarity with ITP (Inspection Test Plan) checkpoints and quality documentation requirements Proficiency using SpoolFab, Bluebeam, and MS Office applications Ability to interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and weld maps accurately Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in record-keeping Capable of conducting visual inspections (VT) and identifying weld discontinuities Ability to work independently and in a team environment with multiple priorities Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and collaboration Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant shop environment Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work OCL Group Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
