Description

Overview:
The Quality Control Technician reports to the Laboratory Manager and contributes to building a ‘Total Quality Operating Culture.’ This role supports key departmental objectives, while collaborating with internal partners. The function of the QC Technician is to perform daily QC testing and support production quality.
This position fully supports current ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001 compliance and process methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform quality control testing of all manufactured products as per the requirements of the quality manual.
  • Carry out the instrumental measurement of colour and the accurate communication to production.
  • Interpret and contribute to implementing QC standards, in concert with Laboratory Standards, as set out.
  • Plan, conduct and monitor testing and inspection of vendor raw materials to ensure finished product quality using analytical instrumentation techniques such as FTIR spectroscopy, TGA and GC.
  • Assists in document management systems, including updating and maintaining templates, specification references and procedures documents and records.
  • Assure ongoing compliance with quality and industry regulatory requirements.
  • Actively promote the vision, mission and core values, as it pertains to the laboratory function and safety.
  • Liaise with Laboratory Manager and Production Supervisor to report quality issues.
  • Evaluate retains to support customer complaint investigations.
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and storing statistical quality data.

Primary Qualifications:

  • A Diploma/Certificate in Quality Control and/or a Chemical Process Technician Diploma/Certificate or a BSc in Chemistry
  • A related Degree may also be considered.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience carrying out ISO and ASTM testing methods an asset.
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with data validation, macros, pivot tables and coding.
  • Strong English writing and verbal skills.
  • Skilled in FTIR Spectroscopy and TGA, experience working with GC is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in conducting tests and managing workload independently in a fast-passed environment.
  • Skilled in managing multiple processes, priorities and deadlines.

Secondary Qualifications:

  • Experience using statistical analysis tools such as Minitab an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills supported with well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • A self-starter with proven experience in a role requiring decision making.
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to act as an internal consultant.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
