JOB SUMMARY:

The QFS (Quality and Food Safety) Manager is responsible for the daily quality control and quality analysis of the facility’s inbound/outbound products and ingredients and is responsible for managing the site’s food safety program. The plant operates twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. The lab covers all shifts necessary to operate the facility.
This position reports to the Plant Manager and has a dotted line to the Regional Quality Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides leadership, support, and guidance to ensure that Food Safety/Quality requirements are met.
  • Manages, plans, implements, and continuously improves the Food Safety/Quality divisional programs.
  • Enforce Quality goals and KPIs, Food Safety/Quality, maintain Food Safety plan, and supports Operations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the processes and systems are adequate to implement, achieve, and maintain 3rd party certifications (i.e., GMP+, SQF, etc.) and FDA compliance (21 CFR 507 and/or 21 CFR 117).
  • Oversee usage of and provide support for information technology systems (i.e., Policy Tech, APeCS, GEMINI, etc.)
  • Tracks and reports the Cost of Poor Quality to drive continuous improvement in the plant.
  • Manages the Food Safety/Quality Team
  • Maintenance and maintaining of laboratory equipment
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and good decision making skills are required.
  • The ability to provide motivation to direct reports, and demonstrate leadership qualities to all plant personnel is needed.
  • Escalates and communicates quality and food safety issues, as required, to Plant Management, Regional QFS, BU NA QFS Director and the Technology Center.
  • Manage day to day Laboratory/Quality Control activities and technicians ((staffing, scheduling, performance, development, and progression)
  • Be able to troubleshoot analytical equipment (including outside of business hours if necessary)
  • Maintain analytical equipment, Manage laboratory preventive maintenance program and equipment service calls
  • Assist in investigations into the determination of root cause for Quality related deviations/rejections and nonconformities
  • Manage inventory and safety of all lab chemicals and supplies
  • Communicate all quality issues with facility management.

Job Qualifications:

  • Preferred 4 year degree or equivalent 7 year Food Safety experience in a Food manufacturing and laboratory environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must. Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, including senior management, customers, and regulatory officials as needed.
