RIVTOW MARINE

Rivtow Marine is a specialist towage services provider engaged by BHP Ltd to operate a large fleet of escort and harbour tugs and associated infrastructure in Port Hedland, Western Australia. Rivtow Marine is a subsidiary company of the Riverside Marine Group which is a privately owned group of companies with almost 100 years of operations experience in Australia. The Riverside Marine Group of companies operate a variety of marine-based businesses around Australia, with operations and offices in Brisbane, Townsville, Hay Point, Perth, and Port Hedland.

Rivtow Marine is seeking to appoint a QHSE Superintendent.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCES

  • Tertiary qualification in HSE, Diploma level or higher
  • Minimum 8+ years preferred in the marine industry QHSE experience in similar role or large heavy industry environment
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment
  • Contractor management experience in leading and guiding numerous contractor groups
  • Root Cause Analysis in Incident Investigation / Facilitation qualified e.g. TapRoot, ICAM
  • Behavioural Safety Program develop and leadership experience
  • ISM / ISO / HSE Lead Auditing qualification / experience (highly desirable)
  • Excellent computer skills in the use of database and to IT systems including the Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Ability to obtain a Marine Security Identification Card (MSIC)
Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE

Rivtow Marine is seeking a professional Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) Superintendent reporting to the General Manager for its operations in Port Hedland, WA. The successful candidate will be a qualified industry experienced leader in Health and Safety, be self-motivated and driven, have a drive and desire to deliver a safe workplace and must thrive on exceeding targets, as well as be focused on and have the abilities to deliver productivity and efficiency improvements to business systems, and be comfortable in a dynamic operating environment with strong abilities to manage multiple and competing business requirements in a timely manner.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and continuously develop the QHSE Field Leadership program to the expectations of Management
  • Manage the QHSE KPI program for Rivtow and the Contractor groups
  • Lead and develop the Risk Management process in the business
  • Contribute to and be a leader of an established safety culture
  • Assist and train Rivtow Marine staff and vessel contractors in the effective use of the QHSE Management System (QHSEMS), using field leadership and behavioural-based safety techniques to augment the quality and safety culture already in place
  • Lead and support the incident investigation and reporting requirements of the business and lead and coach Rivtow Marine staff and contractor groups as and when required in incident and root-cause analysis
  • Support the continued development and implementation of QHSE processes and procedures, as part of the Rivtow Marine QHSEMS
  • Support the evaluation and monitoring of the QHSEMS to ensure the continuous improvement of Rivtow Marine’s QHSE performance
  • Provide leadership to and assist the Rivtow Port Hedland QHSE Advisor to maintain and to improve the Rivtow Marine QHSEMS
  • Audit, monitor and report the performance of the operations regarding QHSE requirements to management
  • Ability to develop, amend and improve high quality QHSE policies, procedures and processes as part of the Rivtow Marine QHSEMS
  • Maintain effective partnerships based on trust, confidence and open communications with all key business stakeholders
  • Provide specialist QHSE operational support to the Rivtow Marine operations team in Port Hedland to ensure continuing compliance with Australian OHS legislation, ISM and ISO standards, Australian Standards, Statutory body compliance requirements (e.g. AMSA, Pilbara Ports Authority) and other standards and codes of practice applicable to site operations.
