Primary Role Function: As part of a person-centred team and individually, carry out lawful duties, directions (as per individual duty roster), and group/program/individual activities aimed at supporting and assisting vulnerable persons within our community and especially those with a disability in their living and/or community environment.
As a Music Therapist, engaged by Empowered Therapy and Training you will be required to be able to multitask by playing music, interacting with participants, undertaking assessments and taking notes simultaneously. As a Music Therapist, you will also need to be meticulous and compassionate, along with having strong problem solving skills.
Therapists are also expected to present a positive and professional image of Empowered Therapy and Training when interacting with supported individuals, family members, advocates, service providers, funding bodies and the general community.
Therapists are also expected to work within and respect the professional boundaries of Empowered Therapy and Training, as outlined within the relevant policies and procedures, as well as the individually signed professional boundaries document.
PERSON REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully the incumbent must be able to satisfactorily demonstrate the following key qualifications, skills, performance and personal characteristics.
Academic/Professional Qualifications:
1) Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy
2) 2+ years experience as a Music Therapist
3) Certification with Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT)
4) Outstanding People Skills
5) Excellent Communication Skills, both verbal and written
6) Proficient with playing guitar, piano, drums, autoharp and Orff instruments
7) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
8) Excellent singing abilities
9) Strong organisational and multitasking skills
10) Valid and Current QLD or International Driver’s Licence
11) Yellow Card (completed by worker)
12) Blue Card (completed by worker)
13) 3 years (plus) experience in working with people with a disability, including those with complex care needs (preferred)
14) Experience in managing people with a disability, who have complex needs and behaviours that require intervention
15) Working knowledge of the requirements of the Disability Services Act, the National Disability Insurance Scheme and other relevant statutory requirements relevant to the position.
16) Ability to think laterally and manage stress and/or challenging situations to achieve positive outcomes
17) Demonstrated superior customer service skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in the use of Outlook, Word, and electronic service user databases.

Key Responsibilities:
1.1 Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to ascertain whether individuals will benefit from music therapy__

1.2 Designing musical interventions based on therapeutic goals / needs to improve a participants psychological, physical and social health
1.3 Providing music therapy sessions
1.4 Inviting participants to interact by encouraging them to sing and dance
1.5 Monitoring participants during musical interventions and measuring effectiveness of all sessions.
1.6 Recording and videotaping (only with consent) participants on a periodic basis to measure the effectiveness and progress of the sessions.
1.7 Keeping records of participant progress
1.8 Conducting six monthly assessments to re-evaluate participants
1.9 Maintaining musical instruments
1.10 Overseeing and mentoring Music Therapist interns (where applicable)
1.11 actively participating in music sessions and encouraging clients to do the same.
1.12 exploring a variety of musical styles and sounds with clients through singing, percussion, ethnic instruments and improvisation.
1.13 Adapt existing or create new music therapy assessment instruments or procedures to meet an individual client’s needs.
1.14 Assess participant functioning levels, strengths, and areas of need in terms of perceptual, sensory, affective, communicative, musical, or other abilities.
1.15 Design music therapy experiences to meet participant’s goals or objectives.
1.16 Engage participants in music experiences to identify client responses to different styles of music, types of musical experiences, such as improvising or listening, or elements of music, such as tempo or harmony.
1.17 Establish client goals or objectives for music therapy treatment, considering client needs, capabilities, interests, overall therapeutic program, coordination of treatment, or length of treatment.
1.18 Improvise instrumentally, vocally, or physically to meet client’s therapeutic needs.
