Active Outreach Services is a growing education and mentoring provider, dedicated to supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
We work with learners who are unable to access mainstream schooling due to emotional, social, or learning difficulties. Our mission is to create personalised support that helps each young person build confidence, develop life skills, and achieve meaningful progress at their own pace.
You will play a vital role in helping young people overcome barriers to learning, grow in confidence, and achieve personal goals. Many of our learners require support with basic English, Maths and employability or careers advice, so confidence in delivering these areas are important.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a qualified teacher to teach basic English and Maths our learners are low level and will need a tutor who is patient and understand SEN needs. The candidate must hold a QTS, PGCE, or an equivalent qualification and be able to provide 1:1 educational and mentoring support for SEN children and young people.
Sessions typically take place in the learner’s home, community venues, or remotely, depending on the learner’s needs.
You will play a vital role in helping young people overcome barriers to learning, grow in confidence, and achieve personal goals.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN or additional needs.
  • Ability to adapt teaching and mentoring styles to suit varied learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to work independently.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one). Please note the of the DBS will be met by the applicant
Responsibilities
  • Deliver personalised, 1:1 tutoring or mentoring to children and young people.
  • Provide support in basic English and Maths and offer Employability or Career guidance as required.
  • Adapt learning approaches to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Foster engagement, build trust, and create positive learning environments.
  • Monitor learner progress and maintain clear daily records.
  • Communicate effectively with the Active Outreach Services Outreach team to support learner goals.
  • Prioritise safeguarding and promote the welfare of all learners.
