ABOUT THE ROLE

Position: Qualified Train Driver Assistant – Port Kembla Full Forecast Roster
Location: Port Kembla, NSW
Status: Full time
The primary objective of the Qualified Train Driver Assistant position is to provide operational support to the Train Driver in a way that ensures safe and efficient train operation in accordance with QLRS, track access provider, regulator and siding owner rules and procedures.

Duties include:

  • Apply safe working rules and regulations to assist with rail operations
  • Identify and ensure the correct response to signals and signs
  • Process workplace documentation
  • Apply accident emergency procedures
  • Follow occupational health and safety procedures
  • Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
  • Apply fatigue management strategies
  • Shunt rolling stock
  • Participate in basic workplace communications
  • Secure cargo
  • Carry out a train roll-by inspection
  • Assist in meeting the requirements of train operations in a timely, safe, efficient and punctual manner
  • Participate in training, briefing sessions and toolbox talks associated with safe and efficient train operations
  • Meet QLRS hazard and near miss reporting requirements
  • Comply with procedures, work instructions, operating protocols and rules in order to facilitate the delivery of safe and efficient train operations

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following;

  • Available to work across a 24/7 shift work roster
  • Technical or trade background - preferred but not essential
  • Recent drivers licence history required
  • Work collaboratively and harmoniously as a part of a team
  • Ability to work autonomously using proactive approach to task resolution
  • Flexible and adaptable to work in a demanding environment
  • Communicate clearly, concisely and accurately orally and in writing
  • Must be fit for work with a good level of fitness and general healt

You must also hold the below qualification as a minimum to be eligible for this role.

  • TLIB 3118 Apply awareness of railway fundamentals
  • TLIF 0020 Safely access the rail corridor
  • TLIF 0025 Follow work health and safety procedures
  • TLIB 0014 Carry out train roll-by inspection
  • TLIB 0017 Conduct a general train examination
  • TLIB 3019 Test train braking system
  • TLIB 3026 Prepare for train operation
  • TLIC 0016 Identify and respond to signals and trackside signs
  • TLIC 4074 Shunt, couple and uncouple rail vehicles
  • TLID 0020 Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
  • TLIF 0004 Work effectively in a train driving environment
  • TLIF 0008 Apply safety critical communications in the rail environment
