Responsibilities
  • Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
  • Preparing and sterilising instruments and equipment following HTM guidance and protocols
  • Helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
  • Set-up and prepare the surgery for the type of patient and treatment planned
  • Clean and sterilise all equipment and working surfaces to the required standards at the end of each session
  • Ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste
  • Maintain the radiograph processing unit
  • Escort patients from the waiting room to the surgery, confirming the medical history and bringing any changes to the attention of the dentist
  • Provide clinical assistance under the supervision of the dentist
  • Continually evaluate the needs of patients and specialist and deal with them promptly and efficiently
  • Assist in the completion of patient records
  • Monitor and maintain stocks as necessary and liaise with the head nurse regarding any shortages of materials
  • Ensure that all necessary laboratory work is returned and ready for each session
  • Follow all practice policies and procedures and patient confidentiality
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with the dental team
  • Comply with all GDC and CQC requirements
