Description
The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Qualitative Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 4 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Qualitative Research Assistant will work alongside the Principal Investigator and Clinical Research Associate to support the conduct of a qualitative research project focused on youth with mental illness. The main tasks of the Qualitative Research Assistant will be to: recruit participants, conduct qualitative research interviews and focus groups, and complete transcripts.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Recruit prospective participants from various clinics across the Foothills Medical Centre
  • Screen prospective participants to ensure participants meet the eligibility criteria
  • Consent prospective participants and educate participants on all aspects of the qualitative research study
  • Schedule qualitative research interviews and focus groups
  • Conduct qualitative research interviews and focus groups
  • Prepare transcriptions of each interview and focus group
  • Submit necessary documents to the local research ethics board using IRISS system
  • Submit necessary documents to AHS to obtain appropriate AHS approvals to access AHS resources and data
  • Maintain electronic files of all study material including protocols, informed consent forms, questionnaires, renewals, and amendmentsMaintain electronic case report forms for data collection and data entry for participant screening

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences or Social Sciences
  • Minimum 2 years of experience conducting qualitative research interviews
  • Minimum 1 year of experience recruiting participants for research studies
  • Minimum 1 year of experience following study procedures via study protocols
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using AHSs Connect Care electronic medical records system and University of Calgary’s IRISS research ethics board submission system
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and advanced internet skill
  • Familiar with the Health Information Act, TCPS-2 guidelines, ethics guidelines and AHS policies around the conduct of research
  • Excellent communication skills
