JOB BRIEF

We are seeking a Quality and Food Safety Manager to ensure our products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. The role involves overseeing quality systems, conducting audits, managing food safety programs, and leading continuous improvement across production.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of HACCP courses I and II
  • Quality Assurance trained
  • Internal Auditor Training preferred
  • WHMIS, First aid and safety training
  • Computer literate, including word and excel
  • Expert experience and knowledge of BRC certification
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Independent work ethic
  • Apple Industry Experience as asset

Responsibilities
  • Works to develop and manage the Bay Growers’ quality system, including Food Safety and HACCP programs, ensuring all procedures are reviewed and kept up-to-date.
  • Keep Bay Growers compliant and certified under its BRC program.
  • Ensure Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Prerequisite Program requirements are followed. Ensures that all Food Safety SOP and GMP training has been delivered to all required employees, with the assistance of HR and employee manual.
  • Chairs the Food Safety team meetings with management and records minutes on a monthly basis.
  • Organizes audit preparations and delegates assignments to other food safety team members. Works with auditors during audit and prepares corrective actions and post-audit reports as required.
  • Documents, maintains and follows up on corrective actions throughout year.
  • Monitors records pertaining to the food safety program for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provides food safety reports to senior management as needed.
  • Environmental microanalysis of: belt lines, air quality, water quality and random checks - react accordingly to test results. Advises senior management as required.
  • Maintenance (calibrations) of QA equipment is completed.
  • Assembling the Food Safety/Recall Teams, tracing recalled product and documentation of recalls or annual mock recalls.
  • Monitoring water safety, performing tests as per schedule.
  • Oversee semi-annual exterior inspections, providing details at Food Safety meetings to management.
  • Meet and assist Third Party Product auditors as necessary.
  • Provide CFIA inspectors with necessary documentation.
  • Generate and follow through to completion corrective action plans related to internal and Third Party audits.
  • Review and revise the Food Safety Prerequisite Manual as required and enter into HAACP log book.
  • Check product rotation on a regular basis; anything over 3 weeks should be checked and discussed with Production Manager.
  • Assist in all Bay Growers’ training as required.
  • All other duties necessary to ensure an efficient Quality Assurance program.
