Description

MEET MERAK — A PLACE TO GROW

We’re MERAK — a tight-knit, fully remote Canadian software consulting agency made up of passionate technology and business experts who love solving problems. For over 30 years, we’ve helped clients modernize, streamline, and thrive by delivering tailored software solutions, systems integration, and trusted advice designed to meet their unique business goals.
As a Microsoft Gold Partner and proud recipient of awards like Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employer and Great Place to Work, we’ve built a culture that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
Right now, we’re looking for a Junior to Intermediate QA Analyst who’s excited to help us test better, build smarter, and ship confidently.
Let’s be upfront: this role isn’t for Senior developers looking for advanced architecture or team lead responsibilities. But if you’re passionate about quality, have solid QA fundamentals, and are ready to grow — we’d love to chat.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

These qualities and skills are important for success in this role:

  • Solid understanding of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans, strategies, and detailed test cases.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills — clear, concise communication is essential.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing your time, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proactive, curious, and committed to continuous learning and growth.
  • Adaptable and thrives in a remote-first, flexible work environment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This role is intended for a junior to intermediate QA. Compensation is aligned accordingly — it’s structured to support your development, provide meaningful work, and offer fair value at this level.
If you’re a senior QA looking for compensation or responsibilities that match a lead or advanced role, this position won’t be the right fit. Currently, we’re not hiring at the senior level. If you’re open to bringing your experience into a junior to intermediate role — with compensation to match — we welcome your application.

THE MERAK EXPERIENCE

We’re a small, purpose-driven team that believes in doing good work with good people. When you join MERAK, here’s what you can expect:

  • 100% remote — We don’t micromanage. We trust you to manage your time and get your work done from wherever you’re most productive.
  • Flexible hours — We collaborate during a core window of 930 AM to 330 PM ET, but how you structure your day is up to you. Life happens — and we’re good with that.
  • Supportive team culture — You won’t find egos here. We value kindness, humility, and people who genuinely want to help each other succeed.
  • Meaningful work — We work with public sector organizations, healthcare providers, educators, and non-profits. The systems you help test are used by real people and make a real impact.
  • A voice that matters — Everyone on the team, no matter their role or level, has input into how we build and improve our work. Your ideas won’t get lost in a backlog.
  • Lean and focused — We keep our processes practical, avoid unnecessary bureaucracy, and aim to ship work that’s solid, smart, and used.

If you’re looking for a role where you’re trusted, supported, and part of something that matters — you’ll fit right in.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

This role is all about making sure the solutions we build meet the mark — from functionality to usability. You’ll play a key role in catching issues before they reach production and helping deliver polished, user-friendly experiences to our clients.

Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:

  • Participate in regular Agile ceremonies such as daily Scrum stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to stay aligned with the team and project goals.
  • Review functional and technical requirements to understand what we’re building — and how to break it (in a good way).
  • Create detailed test plans, test cases, and test data for web and cloud applications.
  • Perform manual testing on front-end interfaces and back-end workflows (APIs, database validations, etc.).
  • Validate new features across multiple environments and document bugs clearly and thoroughly.
  • Run regression tests and support user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Collaborate closely with developers, project managers, and business analysts to ensure quality is integrated from the start.
  • Help continuously improve our QA processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Stay curious and proactive by learning new testing methodologies, tools, and industry best practices to grow your skills and adapt to evolving technologies.

These are essential requirements. If you do not meet all the following, this role is not the right fit — and we kindly ask that you do not apply:

  • Post-secondary education in IT, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent work experience.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on QA experience in a manual or hybrid testing environment.
  • Experience performing manual testing, including functional, regression, and smoke/sanity testing.
  • Experience testing web-based or cloud applications across different devices and browsers.
  • Familiarity with bug tracking and test management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, JIRA).
  • Understanding of Agile or Scrum methodology and experience working in sprint cycles.
  • Basic working knowledge of relational databases and the ability to write simple SQL queries.
  • Currently located in Canada and legally authorized to work here

These qualities and skills are important for success in this role:

  • Solid understanding of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans, strategies, and detailed test cases.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills — clear, concise communication is essential.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing your time, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proactive, curious, and committed to continuous learning and growth.
