Description

Crown Cork and Seal USA, Inc., a world leader in the Packaging Industry has an immediate opening for a Quality Assurance Assistant for its Specialty Packaging operation in Belcamp, MD. Ideal candidate will have at least 3- 5 years’ experience.
Support the Quality Assurance Manager to improve customer satisfaction, reduce cost of non-quality, implement and maintain quality systems and procedures. Work closely with customers, suppliers and all internal functions to achieve continuous improvement.
Responsibilities to include:
1. Ensure workmanship standards are clearly communicated prior to manufacture, including packing specifications.
2. Perform routine inspections of finished goods.
3. Work with Operations to resolve customer complaints and elimination using Plan, Do, Check, Action methods (PDCA).
4. Support reduction in risk and waste with continual improvements that will impact on Quality, Cost, and Deliver (QCD). Key areas will be spoilage and downtime reduction, with efficiency improvements.
5. Traceability- ensures that record keeping and process control checks are understood and adhered to throughout the operation.
6. Perform testing and measurement of in-process and finished goods.
7. Eye of the customer- establish and conduct weekly housekeeping audits to continuously improve operation standards and environment.
8. Work with Logistics to support recovery of rejected material cost and work with suppliers to eliminate risk of recurrence.
9. Work closely with Operations to support process improvement activity.
10. Work closely with Operations during customer visits and audits.
11. Conduct inspections of decorative tinplate and finished products.
12. Support internal staff to ensure quality systems and procedures are followed.
13. Maintain Safe Working Environment.
14. Maintain Sample Room and provide samples for sales team.
15. Perform plant audits as assigned by Quality Engineer.
Job Requirements
Prefer 3-5 minimum in quality control experience.
Able to read, write, speak clearly for necessary daily documentation & communication.
Must be available to work any shift.
Possible over-time as needed to meet customer requirements, including weekends.
Ability to stand for long periods of time in a fast paced, manufacturing environment.
Must wear required PPE and follow all safety rules.
Specifics:
Flexible to carry out any task for which adequate training has been given.
Problem Solving, evaluation, and forward planning.
Work closely with suppliers, shift supervisors and leads.
Review and understand work order specifications. Understand customer specific objectives, and communication to Management. Review and ensure objectives are maintained. Improve teamwork and relationships to clearly understand and drive improvement in satisfaction levels.
Conduct supplier audits to ensure conformance with agreed standards, controls and procedures. (Example Inward inspection of litho) Work with Logistics and Operations to improve supplier relations.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail). Mechanical abilities, strong math and writing skills. Previous quality control experience. Ability to communicate effectively with the Sales Team and customers.
