Five Corners Meat Company Ltd. is part of a family owned business and has operated for over 25 years. We are a specialty meat processing and distribution company spanning two plants in British Columbia and Alberta, serving both domestic and international markets.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Quality Assurance Manager will be accountable for the execution of Food Safety & Quality Assurance programs at the facility. The QA Manager is an integral member of the facility’s management team. The QA Manager will be responsible for driving continuous improvement, integrating quality assurance and quality control principles into all functions, and people, and ensure compliance with the company’s policies and government regulations. The position reports to the Director, QA & FS.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years of managerial experience in quality assurance in the food manufacturing industry in a regulated or ISO type certified context.
  • University degree and/or diploma in a Science related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biological Sciences).
  • Strong knowledge in general quality and food safety principles.
  • In-depth knowledge of HACCP and other Food Safety Programs.
  • Lead change management and continuous improvement activities relating to processes, programs, and/or systems.

POSITIONS SKILLS:

  • Sound judgement, decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in using various type of computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Time management, planning, supervisory and organizational skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work in a refrigerated environment
  • Some travel may be required
  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
  • Typically works Monday to Friday with some weekend requirements

Responsibilities

Food Safety & Quality

  • Ensure the effective execution of all Food Safety and Quality programs to meet corporate, customer as well as regulatory requirements (CFIA, Health Canada, USDA)
  • Manage the development and maintenance of HACCP, Process Control Plans, GMPs and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
  • Manage HACCP assessments and reassessments, and update GMPs, policies and procedures.
  • Lead internal and external audits, and inspections (BRC, Customer, CFIA).
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and ensure that regulations (CFIA, export, etc.) are adhered to.
  • Ensure timely response and resolution of necessary corrective actions associated with complaints, audits, and CFIA concerns.
  • Lead facility activities during potential product recalls.
  • Support or lead change management and continuous improvement activities relating to processes, programs and/or systems.
  • Execute training programs that support the Company’s objectives with regard to quality and food safety.
  • Together with facility leadership, drive the organization’s food safety culture.
  • Apply administrative and record-keeping processes to support the programs listed above
