POSITION TITLE: QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER - MAINTENANCE

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time

Reports To: Director of Maintenance
About MAG Aerospace Canada: MAG has been active in the Canadian aviation industry since it was founded in 1950 and is a premier supplier of special-mission aircraft. Our company focuses on niche markets within Wildfire Management, Air Charter, and Airborne Imagery. We are a key supplier of Aerial Fire Detection and Airspace Management (Birddog) Services in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec. In addition, MAG has been providing specialty Court Air Charter services in Northern Ontario for over 30 years. MAG Aerospace is a global leader in manned and unmanned airborne imagery and surveillance operating on 5 continents and 20 countries worldwide.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license preferred; equivalent aircraft maintenance experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial aircraft maintenance, with demonstrated exposure to regulatory compliance and quality systems.
  • Formal training in auditing, such as ISO 19011:2018, IATA Internal Auditor, or equivalent (acceptable to the Director of Maintenance).
  • Strong working knowledge of Transport Canada regulations (CARs 573, 706, and 406) and applicable guidance material (e.g., AC QUA-001).
  • Proficient understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and quality assurance principles.
  • Experience conducting or leading internal audits in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing audit reports, findings, and corrective action plans, including performing Root Cause Analyses (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.).
  • High attention to detail, strong documentation skills, and sound judgment in interpreting standards and identifying non-conformities.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional integrity in sensitive audit environments.
  • Ability to analyze trends in maintenance reliability, component failure, and audit data to support continuous improvement.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and experience using audit tools or electronic audit scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Planner).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with all levels of staff and external agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute internal audits across all functional areas of the maintenance and operations organization within a 12-month cycle.
  • Develop and maintain audit schedules, checklists, and procedures in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and internal manuals (MCM, MPM, CPM).
  • Perform physical audits, interviews, and sampling of evidence to assess compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct Random Work-In-Progress Inspections to assess real-time maintenance activity and identify perishable data trends.
  • Monitor SMS occurrence and hazard reports for maintenance-related deficiencies and determine inclusion in the QAP.
  • Review maintenance records, documentation, and foreign reports (e.g., ADs, SBs, regulatory changes) to identify systemic issues or required corrective actions.
  • Prepare accurate audit findings with supporting documentation and reference to applicable CARs, policies, or procedures.
  • Conduct root cause analyses using methodologies such as 5 Whys or Fishbone diagrams to support corrective action planning.
  • Develop, track, and verify implementation of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) including short-term containment and long-term systemic improvements.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of audit processes and findings in accordance with QA program standards.
  • Deliver monthly and year-end QA reports summarizing audit findings, trends, and the state of the QAP to the Director of Maintenance.
  • Ensure follow-up and closure of all audit findings, validating effectiveness and sustained compliance.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to internal auditors, ensuring appropriate auditor training, impartiality, and adherence to audit methodology.
  • Continuously improve audit processes, criteria, and tools in response to internal lessons learned and regulatory amendments.
  • Perform amendments to controlled policy and procedures manuals.
  • Track Maintenance Department trainings and prepare training materials for the Director of Maintenance.
  • Manage Approved Maintenance Schedules and track maintenance reliability.
  • Occasional travel to other bases as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance
