RAILONE USA Corp., a concrete railroad tie (sleeper) manufacturer located in Clinton, Iowa, is seeking a fulltime, onsite Quality Control Manager.
The ideal candidate is a team player with a strong work ethic, is attentive to detail and accuracy, is committed to excellence, continuously looks for improvements, monitors quality tasks, finds root cause of quality problems, owns/acts on quality problems to develop, control and manage all aspects of RAILONE USA Corp’s Quality Assurance Program and Quality Assurance Department to ensure that all local, federal, industry and customer quality requirements are met or exceeded.
Job Duties:

Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties may be performed as assigned or required.

  • Prepare, train, and enforce quality assurance procedures for all Quality Control activities in a Precast/Prestress Concrete manufacturing facility.
  • Design, implement and monitor process control plans to minimize the total cost of quality and material waste.
  • Prepare, update and manage all quality assurance documentation, reports, test results and store as required by retention policies.
  • Responsible for the accurate filing and certification of all documents required under statutory compliance and client/customer contractual agreements.
  • Investigate non-compliance issues, establish a root cause analysis and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Demonstrate experience in leadership, problem-solving, creativity, strategic thinking, fostering cooperation and teamwork.
  • Notify Plant Manager of any discrepancies production personnel may have.
  • Participate in all plant inspections and audits by management, client and statutory compliance agencies.
  • Inspect, observe and document of all operations to ensure specified procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for preparing, qualifying, and submitting all concrete mix designs used, including tests and/or coordinating with outside laboratories to perform all required testing. Implement trial batches as needed.
  • Manage all Laboratory Personnel including Quality Assurance Lab Technician(s), Trainees, interns or temporary workers assigned to the Quality Assurance Lab as needed.
  • Ensures continued legal/regulatory company compliance and certification to the current, relevant industry standards, ie, Pre-cast Concrete Institute (PCI), ISO plant certification.
  • Maintains all industry or client required personal certifications, including ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I, and Pre-cast Concrete Institute PCI Level I/II Quality Control Technician.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the Quality Control Manager must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.

  • 3+ years’ experience in a Quality Assurance related position is required
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. A degree in engineering, science, construction management, or other technical field is preferred.
  • ACI (American Concrete Institute) Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I certification required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
  • PCI (Pre-cast/Prestressed Concrete Institute)Level I/II Quality Control Technician certification required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Current and valid driver’s license required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to move freely about a working production plant and storage yard that at times presents a demanding terrain including, but not limited to, climbing of ladders and stair towers, uneven and often wet surfaces, and slopes.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
