The Quality Manager is responsible for monitoring and advising how the quality management system is performing. This position will advise staff on changes in the Quality procedures and systems, and implements new systems where necessary. The QA Manager has deeper knowledge and understanding of Food Defense, and Safe Quality Food (SQF) practices, and has additional testing and audit responsibilities.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of food safety sanitation practices, food safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to use an ATP unit and ORP/pH meter
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAVISION system.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to read and write in the English language proficiently.
  • Communicates effectively with cross-functional colleagues
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to direct, motivate, and manage staff.
  • Knowledge of products and product blends.
  • Knowledge of 3rd party audit process.
  • Computer skills are preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in food or manufacturing environment under HACCP, USDA, and/or FDA.
  • Experience working with a Quality Management System including SQF.
  • Food Defense Training required.
  • HAACP Certified.
  • Required to complete an SQF Practitioner course.

Responsibilities
  • Adheres and ensures that all employees adhere to current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Maintains and enforces all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding GMPs, SQF, and HACCP.
  • Understands and monitors the various aspects of the production process to ensure food safety and product integrity.
  • Manages, mentors, and develops QA managerial and supervisory staff to ensure all QA duties are executed on a routine basis.
  • Conduct GMP and HAACP training for QA Technicians.
  • Assists in writing and implementing appropriate policies, standard operating procedures, and OPLs; Helps in the development and implementation of departmental training programs and any training programs related to Quality Control/Food Safety functions.
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate quality- related activities.
  • Maintain an audit-ready facility by conducting monthly food safety audits.
  • Monitors production equipment for functionality, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Evaluates finished product for quality and acceptability.
  • Trains and verifies training effectiveness of all QA personnel and product releases.
  • Continuously monitors and verifies CCP.
  • Holds and evaluates noncompliant product and packaging.
  • Conducts routine tests and checks on finished product to ensure all products meet specified standards.
  • Document and correct any unusual occurrences and/or deviations.
  • Releases raw and finished goods after review of negative pathogen results per SOP.
  • Participate in 3rd party audit process when necessary.
  • Manages consumer inquiry investigations, root cause analysis, reporting, and corrective and preventative actions.
  • Supervises Environmental Microbial testing (i.e. ATP and Listeria SPP swabs)
  • Conducts Glass and Brittle Plastic audits.
  • Works as an FDA recognized Preventative Controls Qualified Individual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
