The Quality Control Technician is a 2nd shift position based at the Totowa, NJ plant reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor. This position performs daily analytical and baking, testing, pre-operation and line auditing to ensure production procedures and systems are being followed and quality standards are met.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or Microbiology.
  • Excellent reading, writing, math and computer skills with an in depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in a related industry laboratory environment; atomic absorption, gas-liquid chromatography, HPLC or near-infrared spectrophotometry beneficial.
  • Understand and comply with all general safety and environmental requirements for the laboratory and additional specific requirements as contained in the standard methods or in special instructions
  • Review literature related to the general techniques used in the QCL
  • Learn all of the specific laboratory methods and standard operating procedures outlined by the QC Lab Quality Control Manual.
Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices), FSMA, Safety, and Environmental regulations as well as company policies.
  • Maintain positive attitude. Focus on the customer, teamwork, and quality productivity.
  • Give recommendations to improve workplace safety, efficiency, and to better serve the customer.
  • Analyze finished product for various analytical testing including redox, Chittack, pH, %moisture, % salt and titratable acid (TA) on a daily basis.
  • Daily verification/calibration of lab equipment prior to testing finished product to ensure product quality.
  • Check scale calibration during line/pre-operation audits, to ensure that the scales used in Caravan’s processes are accurate.
  • Perform metal detector checks four times per shift, to maintain the integrity of the HACCP plan during line audits.
  • Verify that the box/pail weights are accurate by checking three consecutive boxes/pails on all machines during line audits.
  • Ensure that lot codes and finished products package is correct and legible.
  • Perform bake testing related to shipping or complaints.
  • Product that has been analyzed and does not meet specification, must be re-sampled and re-analyzed immediately. If product is not in compliance, HOLD stickers must be applied immediately and system hold activated.
  • Perform line audit checks inspecting ingredients and cleanliness of equipment.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all required laboratory training classes.

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, location and business or organizational needs. The base salary range for this role is $23.00 to $25.00. In addition, we offer:
