POSITION SUMMARY

The QA Technician supports the Quality Assurance department in ensuring that all products manufactured meet food safety, regulatory, and company quality standards. This role is responsible for monitoring production processes, conducting inspections, verifying records, and performing tests in compliance with USDA-FSIS regulations, HACCP, and SQF standards. The QA Technician plays a key role in maintaining customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in food manufacturing, meat processing, or quality assurance preferred but not required (training provided).
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and basic microbiology/food safety principles is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with production and management staff.
  • Ability to work in a refrigerated food production environment (35–45°F) and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, or overtime as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, and noisy environments.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine pre-operational and operational inspections to verify sanitation, GMP compliance, and equipment condition.
  • Conduct HACCP, SSOP, and food safety monitoring activities, including verification operational prerequisite programs (OPRPs).
  • Collect and test product, ingredient, and environmental samples (e.g., ATPs, pH, water activity, allergen swabs) as required.
  • Accurately document findings on QA forms and electronic systems; immediately report deviations to QA Supervisor and Production Management.
  • Monitor and verify labeling, formulation, and packaging for accuracy and compliance.
  • Support internal audits, USDA-FSIS verification activities, and third-party audits (SQF, customer, etc.).
  • Assist with training production employees on GMPs, food safety, and quality requirements as directed.
  • Participate in investigations of non-conformances, customer complaints, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Maintain and calibrate QA testing equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by QA Supervisor or QA Manager.
