POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Assurance Technician is a mandatory regulatory role under the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations, responsible for the final release of cannabis products and for ensuring that all activities at the licensed site are conducted in accordance with Health Canada’s expectations. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong background in quality systems, attention to detail, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced production environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Quality Assurance or Regulatory Compliance role, ideally in cannabis, food, pharmaceutical, or related regulated industries
  • Proven knowledge of Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations, with emphasis on GPP and quality release procedures
  • Excellent documentation, record-keeping, and attention to detail
  • Experience conducting internal audits, investigations, and implementing CAPAs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Cannabis Security Clearance from Health Canada
  • Familiarity with Ontario cannabis retail regulations is an asset

Responsibilities
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Health Canada’s Cannabis Regulations, including Part 5 (Good Production Practices) and any applicable Ontario provincial requirements
  • Review and approve cannabis lots for sale, destruction, or research in accordance with approved procedures
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the site’s Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Review and approve SOPs, batch production records, sanitation logs, test results, and deviation reports
  • Conduct regular internal audits and inspections, and prepare for third-party and Health Canada inspections
  • Investigate non-conformances, coordinate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and ensure timely resolution
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with Record Retention Requirements under the Cannabis Regulations
  • Collaborate closely with production, sanitation, packaging, and laboratory teams to promote a culture of quality
  • Provide training on Good Production Practices (GPP), quality standards, and relevant SOPs
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with Health Canada, especially during inspections and audits
