Weyerhaeuser’s (Engineered Wood Products) Parallam® manufacturing Plant, located on Annacis Island (Delta), British Columbia, is currently seeking Quality Assurance Technician. Our plant manufactures the high strength engineered wood product Parallam® and is a participative management team concept operation. This position - a full-time hourly role - is part of the QA team and will report to the Technical Director. In this role, you will undertake work that ranges from supporting various process trials and operational projects to general daily QA activities including managing lab activities, equipment, test procedures, processes, IMTE program and QMS system as well as some project-related work. The standard schedule for this role includes 8-hour/day, 5 days/week or 12-hour/shift with 8-week rotation that averages 42 hours/week, including 2 hours of overtime. The rotational shifts may consist of both day shifts (6:45 am to 6:45 pm) and night shifts (6:45 pm to 6:45 am), including a scheduled Saturday shift.
Starting rate $29.41/hr. Based on the current wage and level progression structure, earnings can potentially increase to $41.43/hr in the future.

Duties:

The QA Technician is responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Ensuring consistent use of safe work practices in all the work that is performed.
  • Supporting management of the QMS system.
  • Maintaining the CIF database as part of the QMS system.
  • Managing the site QA Hold database and assisting in the correction action process for products placed on hold.
  • Assisting the Technical Director in managing lab activities, equipment, and processes.
  • Assisting the Technical Director in managing all test procedures (regular and trials), compiling and reconciling data, and ensuring equipment and processes are functioning correctly.
  • Working with other QA Technicians with testing during high task demand periods (re-tests, size changes, trials, staff shortages, press start-up & shutdowns). Due to the nature of the products being heavy engineered wood, the process of collecting and testing Parallam samples can involve operating table saw, chop saw and band mills, carrying and lifting samples weigh up to 50 lbs, driving forklift to maneuver samples and packages, etc.
  • Managing IMTE (Inspection, Measuring, and Test Equipment) program.
  • Making recommendations regarding operating parameters based on data gathered.
  • Supporting various process trials and operational projects.
  • Working with Operations and Maintenance Departments to support the achievement of all safety, quality, environmental and production targets.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to safety – demonstrated record of understanding and using common safety processes; ability to analyze, assess and control risk in a reliable and systematic way.
  • Data driven, able to use data to develop strategies and translate them into objectives, action plans, and timelines with follow-up.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize time while handling multiple tasks.
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and issue resolution skills.
  • Excel at managing change – lead and enable others to adapt to and anticipate change.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to work alternate shifts and be flexible with short-term scheduling variations.
  • Experience in QA-related industrial work would be an asset.
