Your team The Investments team is a product-aligned, customer obsessed engineering team specialising in IG’s Investment products (Share-dealing, mutual funds, and smart portfolios, see our website). The team’s core mission is to incrementally develop, extend, improve and support IG’s world-leading investment products. In addition to being customer centric, it is critical for the team to drive ever-higher-quality engineering, to ensure that we keep our systems highly available, low on support-cost, and easy to change. Your role in the Team's Success Your primary responsibility will be to partner with Product and Engineering to drive a culture of best-practice ATTD within the team. You will act as a hands-on practitioner, leading by example, but also as a coach and guide for others in the team. You will develop a deep understanding of IG’s trading products and everything around them. You will gain empathy for our customers and be an advocate for their experience within the Product/Engineering space. What you'll do You will write acceptance test criteria, from a product/functional perspective and also an operational monitoring & alerting perspective. Ensuring these are implemented by engineers as part of the Definition of Done of a development story. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to deliver seamless user experiences. You will advocate and embody modern engineering practices such as ATDD within the team. You will collate Business Acceptance Test programs for new products and features, and ensure we don’t ship a half-baked product. You will mentor and support less experienced team members in ATDD practices, including through pairing, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment. You will perform exploratory testing and create and prioritise stories to close gaps. You WON’T do repetitive regression testing. We automate that. What you'll need for this role Deep understanding and experience of various types of tests required for an always available, customer facing trading platform. Understanding and experience in modern iterative engineering, how tests fit in and don’t slow down deployments or create toil over time. Strong hands-on experience of ATDD. Good problem-solving skills and a quality-oriented mindset. Strong English-language communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. A keen interest in ongoing learning, both business and technical. You will be expected to gain a deep understanding of IG's trading business, and the wider community of engineering teams and business teams around you.
