JOB SUMMARY:

The Quality Control (QC) Manager oversees all aspects of product quality within the manufacturing process, with a specific focus on welding operations. This role ensures compliance with Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications, while maintaining high standards of product integrity and safety. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5–7 years of quality control/assurance experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, including welding processes.
  • Strong knowledge of WPS, PQR, and welder qualification requirements per AWS/ASME standards.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proficient in quality tools such as SPC, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, and CAPA.
  • Familiarity with NDE/NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) is a plus.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control systems aligned with manufacturing and welding standards (AWS, ASME, ISO, or other applicable codes).
  • Manage and maintain WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification Records (WQR), ensuring compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise QC inspectors and welding inspectors during fabrication, in-process inspections, and final product verification.
  • Conduct fit-up, dimensional, and weld inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Oversee non-conformance reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) related to welding and manufacturing defects.
  • Collaborate with production to troubleshoot welding quality issues and implement process improvements.
  • Monitor welding consumables and materials to ensure they meet quality and certification requirements.
  • Coordinate third-party inspections and audits (customer, regulatory, or certifying body).
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, or other applicable standards.
  • Train and mentor QC staff and welders on inspection requirements and quality best practices.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, Lean/Six Sigma projects, and process optimization within quality operations.
