Quality Control Technician - Job Description
Summary
The Quality Control (QC) Technician plays a key role in ensuring that materials, processes,
products, and documentation comply with established specifications and regulatory standards
under the Cannabis Act, GPP, and GMP (where applicable). Working both independently and as part
of a cross-functional team, the QC Technician supports production operations through in-process
quality checks, documentation review, and collaboration with Quality Assurance (QA) to maintain
product integrity and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine in-process inspections, including environmental monitoring, equipment setup

verification, and line clearance during production and packaging activities.

  • Monitor and enforce adherence to SOPs, GPP, GMP (if applicable), PPE requirements, and

sanitation programs.

  • Collect and verify in-process and finished product samples for quality testing and retention.
  • Verify and inspect incoming materials and components to ensure they meet required

specifications before use.

  • Perform finished product quality checks to ensure conformity to specifications prior to release.
  • Ensure all production documentation (batch records, packaging and labeling forms) is

completed accurately and in real time by production personnel.

  • Issue, control, and maintain production and packaging documentation; support timely

document review and archival.

  • Assist in reviewing and maintaining product test submissions, retention samples, and shipping

documentation.

  • Support investigations into out-of-specification (OOS) results, deviations, product complaints,

adverse events, and returned product, including documentation and corrective action tracking.

  • Partner with the QA team to deliver on-site training for operations staff regarding quality

procedures and in-process checks.

  • Assist with internal and external audits and inspections by Health Canada or other regulatory

bodies.

  • Communicate with third-party testing laboratories and contract organizations on sample

logistics and test data, as needed.

  • Provide quality and compliance updates to QA management as required.
  • Ensure QAP (Quality Assurance Person) product release is documented before any product is

made available for sale.

  • Maintain organized, accurate, and compliant records in accordance with document retention

policies.

  • Work in accordance with all Health & Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety

Act.

  • Participate in all required workplace training, including WHMIS, AODA, and annual health and

safety reviews.

  • Attend team meetings and actively contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred; minimum of one year of demonstrated

success in a GMP/GPP-regulated industry (pharmaceutical, NHP, or medical cannabis) required.

  • Strong working knowledge of Cannabis Regulations, GPP, GMP (if applicable), and QA/QC

practices.

  • Proven ability to train others and effectively communicate QA/QC expectations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Health Canada security clearance under the Cannabis Act is preferred.
