Quality Control Technician will be responsible for overseeing the quality of the product being packed on all lines of production during their shift. It is the duty of QC personnel to inform Production Shift Supervisors and/or Manager of any discrepancy during packing to improve or correct the quality of the product. Responsible for sorting and inspecting walnuts during the production process at GDN, and GDN In Shell.

Responsibilities
  • HACCP – a daily inspection will be made to ensure that production personnel are correctly performing tasks related to HACCP.
  • Pre-operational inspections of the processing equipment.
  • ATP Swab at beginning of shift and on allergen change overs.
  • Perform oxygen level test when required by work instructions.
  • Weight checks of product and controlled weights.
  • Employee/staff GMP inspections at the beginning of the shift.
  • Production packing lines – check-packing lines at the beginning of the shifts as well as any time product is changed to ensure quality of product is appropriate. Check for any excessive defect found in lines and inform production personnel immediately of any discrepancy.
  • Packing labels – check production labels to ensure dates, product and customer information is correct and up to date. Double check customers’ specifications for label at the beginning each order.
  • Cracker tests – sample the product being shelled at the cracker and determine the percentage of halves being produced. Determine if percentage is normal and notify supervisor if there are any concerns or discrepancies. Repeat this 3-4 times per shift when cracker is running normally.
  • Quality tests – hand sort samples at determined frequency. Collect all defect found from hand inspections and weight to determine percentage that is currently found in product. Make annotations electronically and in QC log for quality records. Let production and WC personnel know of any significant finding immediately.
  • DFA paperwork – verify all DFA paperwork at the end of each shift to ensure no mistakes are made by inspectors and notify supervisor if any discrepancies are found.
  • Defect from lines – collect all defect found in the reject buckets from the lines at the end of each order completion. Weigh and record the defect and any comments in QC log. Do this for every order being packed during shift.
  • Color percentages – sample product from packing lines to obtain a color percentage and make sure it is within the customer’s specifications when
  • available. If no specifications are available for color use GDN standards specifications and make sure it is within passing range of DFA inspection. Notify supervisor of any off-color during packing to ensure a prompt correction.


    • Overall production quality – evaluate overall packing quality during production, this could include but is not limited to boxes, liner, tape, BHT, weight, labels, sanitation, etc.

    • Assist in clean up as needed.
    • Follows and ensures adherence to established Grower Direct Nut Co., local, state, and federal regulations and requirements as well as food safety, sanitation, food production and nutritional guidelines.
    • Established and ensures adherence to procedures and standards, which are in agreement with these regulations, requirements and guidelines. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Responsibilities are not limited to the above mentioned and may include assisting other departments within reasonable and related tasks. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Physical demands
    • o Will frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, taste and smell.
    • o Will occasionally sit and occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
    • o Must use both hands for rapid mental muscular coordination, simultaneously.
    • o Must be able to reach high and low levels, frequently.
    • o Must be able to push/pull/lift with arms below waist/at shoulder/above shoulder level up to 30 pounds frequently.
    • o Must lift with arms up to floor to waist, waist to shoulder 30 pounds.
    • o Must be able to constantly stand/stoop/walk/bend, up to 12 hrs.
    • o Ability to strenuous flex/grip with wrist/hands frequently (15 flexion/minute).
    • Work environment
    • o May work near moving mechanical parts.
    • o May work around wet or humid conditions, in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and/or risk of vibration. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

      1. Minimum of High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.


        1. Ability to multi-task, prioritize jobs.


          1. Previous Quality Control experience, preferred.


            1. Must be able to work on many different projects at one time.


              1. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.


                1. Must be dependable, reliable, and able to work independently.


                  1. Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed.


                    1. Accurately complete documents and paperwork that is related to the job.


                      1. Must be computer literate.


                        1. Punctual and good attendance is necessary.
