QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN

Pioneer Construction is looking for a hard-working, self-motivated employee with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Quality Control Technician in the Kenora, Ontario area. The Quality Control Technician will need to be punctual, dependable and will require a high level of competence, motivation, professionalism, and independence. This is a full-time seasonal position available with training, competitive wages and a benefits package.

EDUCATION:

  • Relevant post-secondary degree in civil, mining, construction or geotechnical engineering or a combination of experience that is determined to be equivalent is required.
  • Possession of a valid G License is required.
  • ACI certification is considered an asset.
  • Aggregate and Asphalt CCIL certification is considered an asset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of construction materials including asphalt and other aggregates.
  • Understanding of testing procedures and standards for various construction materials.
  • Ability to extract and compile data into reports
  • Experience in safely operating laboratory equipment including safe handling and cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to life in accordance with OHSA requirements.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment required to perform the work (e.g. hand and power tools, etc.)
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections of construction materials.
  • Perform field tests and laboratory tests to analyze the quality and performance of asphalt and aggregate samples.
  • Safely operate testing and sampling equipment.
  • Participate in quality control plans and procedures for projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all facets of Quality Control/Quality Assurance including structures, foundations, asphalt, concrete, grading, granular and electrical.
  • Maintain and analyze detailed records of test results, inspections, and quality control processes.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of all samples to the applicable laboratories
  • Working in various weather conditions.
  • Work shifts including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Travel between sites including overnight stays when required.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Must maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment.
  • Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
