QUALITY CONTROLLER – FRESH PRODUCE

We are currently seeking candidates who possess hands-on experience in the fresh produce sector. This includes backgrounds in warehouse operations, packing, farming, or retail environments dealing with fresh produce. Please note that applications will only be considered if they demonstrate relevant experience in these areas. A degree is also required for this position.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Head of Quality and Quality Supervisors. Escalate issues that require a more detailed decision process
  • Work as part of a team of quality controllers in monitoring the quality of fresh produce from delivery intake to the loading and dispatch to customers.
  • Carry out detailed inspections of fresh produce on delivery, record findings and take photographs of defects, temperatures outside of specification etc.
  • Using the information gathered during intake inspection, prepare Non-Conformance reports to suppliers as required.
  • Monitor the quality of produce in storage identifying stock that has deteriorated and requires sorting and grading, Class 2 or waste that is no longer suitable for human consumption.
  • Carry out positive release checks in the Packhouse for packed products and in the Marshalling Area for bulk products – check product quality, temperature, traceability codes, expiry date, country of origin. Record all relevant information.
  • Ensure that all documentation is completed accurately and is audit ready.
  • Work with Packhouse and Warehouse operatives through guiding and monitoring sorting operations to ensure product continuously meets the customer specification.
  • When assigned by Head of Quality or QC supervisor, process daily returns to determine items that are suitable for re-work, downgraded to Class 2 or waste.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with HACCP food safety, quality & authenticity principles along with customer and 3rd party audit standards i.e. BRCGS, Organic Trust, Fairtrade, and Global Gap Chain of Supply.
  • Observe all Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all job duties and responsibilities in an ethical manner and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
