Auckland Council is seeking a highly skilled Quality Engineer to join our Technology Services team. This is a significant opportunity to play a crucial role in the development and delivery of high-quality, efficient, and scalable software solutions that power Auckland’s digital infrastructure.
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the software products we deliver meet the highest standards of quality. Your role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams, applying a shift-left approach to identify and resolve issues early in the software development lifecycle. You will take ownership of implementing and maintaining automated testing, performance testing, and security testing, while also optimizing and enhancing our CI/CD pipelines to support seamless, reliable software deployment.

HE KŌRERO MŌU: ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a Quality Engineer with a strong background in the testing discipline, ideally within technology services and enterprise-level software systems. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in software testing within Agile/SAFe frameworks, particularly in complex enterprise environments involving cloud-hosted SaaS solutions such as Salesforce, Workday, and Snowflake.
  • Extensive experience with test automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium, along with proficiency in scripting languages such as .NET, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Strong knowledge of API automation using tools like Postman or other similar tools.
  • Proven expertise in designing and managing CI/CD pipelines, ensuring effective integration and deployment processes to support rapid, high-quality delivery.
  • Solid experience in performance testing using tools like JMeter or LoadRunner, coupled with the ability to identify, diagnose, and address performance bottlenecks.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams including developers, product owners, and operations, to ensure a high standard of quality throughout the software lifecycle.
  • A passion for continuous improvement, both in personal skills and in optimizing testing strategies and team processes.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise in ETL testing, accessibility testing (WCAG standards), and cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in security testing using industry-standard tools like OWASP ZAP to ensure comprehensive risk mitigation and secure software delivery
