JOB SUMMARY

Reporting directly to Manager-Quality, the Quality Specialist will be responsible for assisting with quality system development and supporting product quality improvements. Develop, maintain and deploy quality plans and activities that translate customer requirements into planned activities. Receive and inspect products, components, subassemblies, and/or systems to ensure conformance to requirements and drawings. This role is an in-office position reporting on-site at our Bedford, NS facility.

Responsibilities

AS A QUALITY SPECIALIST, YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Responsible for assisting with quality system development and supporting product quality improvements
  • Develop, maintain and deploy quality plans and activities that translate customer requirements into planned activities
  • Ability to work independently under supervision of others
  • Reviews and approves engineering/test and contractor documentation and provides input to assure that appropriate quality requirements are addressed
  • Gathers, organizes, monitors, analyzes and reports on information on products and processes
  • Provides ongoing quality system support to include performing internal audits, ensuring implementation of root cause corrective actions
  • Participates on product quality improvement teams, Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards
  • Evaluates and dispositions non-conforming material
  • Provides technical support for Assembly/Test/Inspection personnel to include executing workmanship improvement plans, developing inspection methods and criteria, specifying appropriate sampling plans, interpreting and revising specifications, and processing non-conforming materials
  • Assists in resolving customer quality issues
  • Initiate and drive root cause and corrective action on process and product quality issues
  • Participates in supplier selection and improvement processes
  • Responsibilities include assisting with on-site audits, evaluating prototypes, and reviewing and approving of supplier corrective actions
  • Performs inspection activities, to assess conformance of products to the design as defined by the engineering drawings and/or models
  • Inspects products, components, subassemblies, and/or systems to ensure conformance to requirements
  • Identify nonconforming conditions of products that present existing or impending defective conditions at the system or subsystem level of assembly
  • Prepare inspection plans and checklists for inspection
  • Generate discrepancy notices and initiate Material Review Board actions
  • Perform material movement transactions after completing inspection process
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Perform receiving inspection, in-process inspection, process verification/auditing, final inspection, etc.
  • Attend appropriate customer, business or Program meetings
  • Prepares quality engineering reports and recommendations
  • Provides regular reporting of progress and status

WHAT YOU REQUIRE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience- considered an asset.
  • 3 – 5 years of related work experience within a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment
  • General knowledge of relevant manufacturing standards (such as J-Std-001/IPC-A-610/IPC/WHMA-A-620) or common mechanical techniques (such as geometric dimensioning and tolerance practices)
  • Ability to use various measurement devices (calipers, pin gauges, go/no-go gauges, etc) to verify mechanical part compliance
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and able to verify parts dimensions against drawing requirements
  • Ability to effectively interpret data and present as information and respond to questions from engineers and other technical staff
  • Novice technical expertise and application domain knowledge
  • Familiar with ISO 9001:2015 as well as AS9100 D standards
  • Demonstrates initiative and applies it on-the-job
  • Ability to manage multiple technical assignments
  • Maintain positive working relationships with other team members.
  • Ability to understand military specifications and to read blue prints
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to define problems and drive to root cause and effective corrective action
