POSITION OVERVIEW

The Quality Engineer is responsible for managing all Quality Assurance activities related to the plating process. This includes ensuring effective inspection processes are in place and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to address and resolve quality issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, or relevant industry experience
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience of quality, engineering, machine shop, assembly or functional testing experience
  • Minimum 7 years of Quality Management Systems experience, including experience related to document management, internal and/or external audits, nonconforming material control, and root cause and corrective action processes
  • Proficiency in data analysis, problem solving, continuous improvement, and statistical techniques
  • Proficiency in review and interpretation of technical information such as blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements: This position requires the employee to sit, stand, and walk frequently; lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds; finger and wrist dexterity required.
Required to wear PPE (i.e. face, foot, eye, hand, and/or hearing protection)
Work Environment: While performing duties of the job, the employee will work in an office setting within a metal finishing environment. The employee will be exposed to fumes and vapors, noise, chemicals, cold, heat, humidity, and dust.

Responsibilities
  • Leads in the development and implementation of quality processes and controls to reduce plating defects and conform to flow down requirements
  • Leads continuous improvement activities through the implementation of Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques within our quality system
  • Lead rejection review and non-conformant plating disposition process through individual investigation and group activities, often including supplier and/or customer representatives
  • Lead and manage RCCA to resolve internal and external quality concerns using tools and methods such as Pareto analysis, 5-Why, 8-D, etc.
  • Develop and maintains QMS documentation, and conducts necessary training to maintain conformance to ISO9001, AS9100, IATF 16949, FAA Repair Station, and Nadcap AC7108 standard requirements
  • Develop and maintain standard work documentation, process control plans and fixed process specifications
  • Develop and maintain documented requirements for incoming, in-process and final inspection processes
  • Review, maintain, and provide guidance related to customer and industry specification requirements
  • Review, maintain, and provide guidance related to customer quality clause requirements
  • Maintain calibration recall program for all equipment and tools used to control and/or verify process conformance
  • Maintain periodic testing program for all plating processes in conformance with specification and Nadcap AC7108 requirements
  • Use data analysis techniques to perform trend analysis and identify areas in need of continuous improvement activities
  • Support the quality audit system as an internal auditor and participate in 2nd and 3rd party audits
  • Issue and complete external provider quality surveys and maintain the company Approved Suppliers List
  • Mentor and train quality team members on best practices and compliance
  • Lead or participate in preparation and maintenance of automotive core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA)
  • Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the department
