Description

The Quality Engineer at NPSG Global is responsible for all quality processes, inspections, data collection, and reporting in support of manufacturing operations in a metal manufacturing business. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all products meet the established quality standards by conducting inspections, calibrating inspection tools, and maintaining accurate quality records. They will assist in the product disposition process and provide guidance and training to operations personnel on quality processes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools such as calipers and height gauges.
  • Familiarity using the following software: MS Office, PC-DMIS, MIE Trak.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluent in reading, speaking, and writing English.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish preferred.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • BS or higher in the engineering field or subject matter expert (SME).
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a quality role.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a manufacturing role.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, such as tube laser cutters, sheet metal laser cutters, brake presses, welding, fence weavers, powder coating, and assembly.
  • Advance understanding of quality control principles, inspection techniques, and measurement and testing equipment.
  • 2+ years of experience with ISO 9001 and other quality standards preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years previous experience in a metal fabrication shop working with similar equipment and materials is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control.
  • LEAN Green Belt, Six Sigma or similar training preferred.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, and/or equivalent quality training preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Manufacturing environment with intermittent noise and long periods of standing in a warehouse-type physical space, with exposure to noise and dust in hot and cold climates.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, and kneel.
  • Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and normal hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).
  • Must have good hand and eye coordination.
  • Must wear steel-toed shoes.

Responsibilities
  • Perform sample inspections on parts and products in-process and before shipping as required.
  • Review engineering documentation to ensure it contains the necessary quality assurance, customer provisions, and criteria.
  • Work with Sales and Production to drive continuous improvement in products and processes.
  • Assist the Production Supervisors as needed with various audits and compliance projects.
  • Maintain quality documentation to ensure product traceability.
  • Perform inspections on products, materials, and components, using various inspection tools and techniques.
  • Conduct calibration and maintenance of inspection tools to ensure their accuracy and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date quality records, including inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
  • Assist in the product disposition process by providing input on the quality of the product and helping to determine whether it meets the necessary requirements for release.
  • Provide guidance and training to operations personnel on quality processes, procedures, and best practices.
  • Participate in internal audits of the quality system and assist in the development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Work 40-50+ hours weekly dependent on production needs.
  • Maintain the 7S method in the departments.
  • Obeying all company, OSHA, and other state and federal agencies’ safety regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
