Orbex Group is a worldwide industry-leading electric motor and slip ring supplier based in Austin, Texas. We have international and domestic slip ring and motor manufacturing facilities to supply our global customers with the best products at the best prices.
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer ensuring the highest level of quality in our manufacturing processes and managing the quality performance of our suppliers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve quality issues, implement quality improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality and/or manufacturing engineering, a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Candidates must be able and willing to work onsite with possible travel internationally (Asia/Europe/Mexico). Candidates will be interacting regularly with team members and business partners but domestically and internationally to ensure we meet quality needs while developing high performance products.
Objectives of this Role
- Collaborate with the manufacturing teams to establish and maintain robust quality control processes and standards for all manufacturing operations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of manufacturing processes, equipment, and products to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Investigate and analyze quality issues, defects, and non-conformances, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions to eliminate root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Manage the supplier quality program, including evaluating and approving new suppliers, conducting supplier audits, and monitoring supplier performance to ensure adherence to quality requirements.
- Develop and maintain quality documentation, including control plans, work instructions, inspection procedures, and quality records.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process optimization.
- Collaborate with design engineering and manufacturing teams to review product designs, specifications, and manufacturing processes for quality optimization.
- Conduct statistical analysis and use quality tools to analyze data, monitor process performance, and drive data-driven decision-making.
- Maintain and exercise current Orbex’s ISO9001-2015 Certified Quality Management System
- Reviews current product quality aspects to determine if acceptable to Orbex standards
- Works with international partners to ensure customer needs are being met with high quality solutions
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
- ISO9001 QMS Compliance
- Dimensional data review inspection of incoming products
- First article inspections of new products
- Product performance and failure analysis of new and current products
- Return materials and non-conformance product review and reporting to customers and Orbex leadership
- Supplier and manufacturing quality development, review, and communication
- Day to day manufacturing/supplier quality support
- Quality audit support either in person or via questionnaire for customers
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering field or equivalent experience in related field.
- 4-7 years of relevant professional experience in various roles such as Manufacturing Quality, Supplier Quality and/or Manufacturing engineering
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems, quality control methodologies, and quality improvement tools (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, SPC, root cause analysis).
- Can work autonomously with little or no direction while meeting predefined goals
- Ability to communicate succinctly with leadership in a variety of topics and customers about specifics to their products.
- Experience working with foreign suppliers on complex quality and technical topics
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949) and experience implementing and maintaining compliance.
- Experience in conducting supplier audits, evaluating supplier capabilities, and managing supplier quality performance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience and tact to work with customers on sensitive topics while executing clear objectives in ambiguous scenarios.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in using statistical analysis software and tools for data analysis and problem-solving (e.g., Minitab, JMP).
- Proficient Microsoft applications (Office 365 Suite)
- Deep and thorough understanding of managing and maintaining manufacturing quality systems
- Experience working in the motor and motion control industry with good understanding of motors is a plus

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
