ABOUT THE JOB:

The Quality Engineer plays a key role in maintaining and improving the quality management system for STS Metals.
This position supports Sales, Production, Quality Control, and Outside Processing to ensure all products meet customer, regulatory, and industry specifications, with a particular emphasis on aerospace and defense standards (AS9100, NADCAP).
The Quality Engineer is responsible for process verification, corrective actions, inspection oversight, and technical support to both internal teams and customers. This role helps drive continuous improvement and ensures product integrity from order intake to final delivery.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Order & Process Review · Review production and processing orders to confirm alignment with customer specifications, industry standards, and internal procedures. · Verify test reports, mill certifications, and material documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Inspection & Calibration · Supervise and support inspection personnel to ensure proper execution of product inspections and dimensional checks. · Manage the calibration program to ensure all measurement and testing equipment is properly maintained and certified.
- Testing & Data Analysis · Review furnace surveys and thermal process documentation to ensure compliance with internal procedures and NADCAP standards. · Perform statistical analysis of product performance, process capability studies, and trending of quality data.
- Quality Management System Support · Assist with the maintenance of the AS9100 Quality Management System and NADCAP special process certifications. · Participate in internal audits and support corrective/preventive action processes.· Lead or participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives.
- Vendor & Customer Interaction · Interface with suppliers to resolve quality issues, support vendor quality improvements, and perform audits as needed. · Provide technical quality support to the Sales team and serve as a liaison to customers on quality matters. Continuous Improvement · Participate in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma activities to reduce defects and improve process efficiency. · Support cost of quality reduction initiatives and scrap/rework analysis.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree- Quality, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 1-3 years related experience in a manufacturing setting
- Experience with mechanical testing (tensile, yield, fracture toughness, etc.) is preferred
- Prior experience in aerospace industry quality systems is a strong plus
- Strong knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, and customer-specific requirements, preferred
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, SPC, and data-driven problem solving
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office and quality software systems
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Experience in forging, heat treatment, and aerospace product manufacturing is a plus
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines
- Understanding of ERP system and Microsoft Office products; strong computer skills including Excel
