Description
Description We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Quality Inspector to support our fabrication department, ensuring that all fabricated components meet stringent defense and custom project standards. This hands-on role focuses on inspecting carbon steel and stainless-steel parts throughout the production process, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, internal requirements, and applicable industry standards such as AWS, ASME, and NAVSEA. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on the shop floor, using a variety of precision tools, and interpreting complex technical drawings and documentation. This position is critical to maintaining the high-quality reputation of our fabricated products in both defense and custom industrial applications. Requirements Key Responsibilities: Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and technical standards to inspect products throughout the manufacturing process, verifying conformance to customer and internal specifications (including dimensional, visual, mechanical, chemical, and performance characteristics). Perform inspections using a variety of precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gage pins, thread gages). Conduct first-piece inspections and full-dimensional layout inspections as required. Support Gage R&R and other Measurement System Analysis (MSA) activities to ensure accuracy and repeatability of inspection processes. Identify, report, and assist in resolving quality issues in collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Coordinate assigned quality assurance tasks across all stages of fabrication operations. Accurately complete inspection documentation, including checklists, reports, and electronic forms. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with 5S and safety protocols. Assist in the implementation of quality initiatives and participate in continuous improvement efforts. Adhere to all company safety policies and wear appropriate PPE when performing job tasks. Experience & Education: 3+ years of experience in inspection of metal cutting, forming, welding, or machining — required 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience — required Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook — required 1+ year of experience using ERP systems (e.g., Epicor) — preferred Associate’s degree or completion of a two-year college or technical school program in a related field — preferred Required Qualifications: Experience inspecting metal cutting, forming, and welding processes (carbon and stainless-steel fabrication). Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and BOMs; willingness to further develop these skills if needed. Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Metrology, or willingness to learn. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to dimensional inspection and analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document inspection results and collaborate effectively. Proficiency with basic computer tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, data entry systems). Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to quality. Ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment. Physically capable of standing for extended periods, regularly lifting up to 10 lbs., and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Knowledge of workplace safety practices in a fabrication or manufacturing setting. Strong work ethic and dependable attendance. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced understanding of GD&T, inspection techniques, and dimensional layout inspection. Experience with defense fabrication standards, including NAVSEA specifications. Familiarity with GAGEtrak gage calibration software. Experience supporting Gage R&R or other statistical quality assurance programs. Exposure to ASME code requirements in welded fabrication. Work Environment & Physical Requirements: This role is primarily performed on the fabrication shop floor. May involve exposure to noise, dust, heat, or other typical manufacturing conditions. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
