QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in quality management within structural steel, construction, or fabrication environments
  • In-depth knowledge of welding codes such as AWS D1.1 and D1.5, as well as other construction and steel fabrication standards
  • Hands-on experience with non-destructive testing (NDT), including UT, MT, and PT methods
  • Familiarity with quality management systems, inspection tools, and relevant software platforms
  • Understanding of steel fabrication workflows, structural detailing, and shop-floor quality practices
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is an asset
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of AISC Certified Fabricator program requirements
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng or PE) designation is preferred but not mandatory
  • Familiarity with project management tools and processes
  • Understanding of BIM systems is considered an asset
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities across shop, office, and client-facing roles
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and build a quality-first culture
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Travel throughout Southern Ontario with 50% in GTA and 50% outside GTA area

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of a company-wide quality management system that meets industry codes, client expectations, and regulatory standards
  • Maintain and improve quality procedures, inspection methods, and work instructions in alignment with AWS D1.1 and related codes
  • Conduct internal quality audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives to resolve non-conformities and prevent recurrence
  • Manage document control systems for all quality-related materials, including procedures, test records, and compliance reports
  • Review technical specifications, contracts, and drawings to define and enforce project-specific quality requirements
  • Create and implement inspection and test plans (ITPs) for all phases of steel fabrication and construction projects
  • Collaborate with project managers to integrate quality checkpoints into construction timelines and production schedules
  • Monitor quality performance during key project milestones and ensure inspection hold points are properly executed
  • Oversee welding programs, including welder qualifications, weld procedure specifications, and welder performance monitoring
  • Supervise non-destructive testing (NDT) processes such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing
  • Ensure accurate material traceability, including mill test reports, heat numbers, and batch control
  • Lead dimensional and tolerance inspections during fabrication, and manage quality standards for coatings and surface prep
  • Provide leadership to the quality control team, assigning responsibilities, setting expectations, and evaluating performance
  • Design and deliver training sessions to educate production staff on quality standards, procedures, and best practices
  • Support plant managers and supervisors in resolving quality concerns and implementing corrective actions
  • Maintain AISC certification standards and liaise with certification bodies to ensure compliance
  • Prepare reports and present quality metrics to senior leadership for review and decision-making
  • Represent the company during third-party inspections and client quality audits
  • Oversee non-conformance tracking and corrective/preventive action processes
  • Ensure adherence to safety, building code, and customer-specific quality requirements
