EXPERIENCES/EDUCATION - REQUIRED

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 0-2 years’ experience
  • SolidWorks/ CAD proficiency.
  • Understanding of GD&T applications and principles.
  • Understanding of metrology techniques and principles.
  • Able to interpret technical documentation (e.g. Specifications, design prints, etc.).
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office i.e. Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Project

EXPERIENCES/EDUCATION - DESIRED

  • Basic understanding of advanced metrology i.e. CMM, vision system, 3D scanning, etc.
  • Experience with inspection software for data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001)

Responsibilities

ROLE PURPOSE

This role is vital in maintaining the quality of metal components utilized across Corning facilities globally. By developing and implementing advanced inspection methods and procedures, this position helps maintain high standards of quality control and compliance. The engineer will utilize a range of metrology tools, including calipers, micrometers, laser light scanners, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), to conduct accurate measurements and ensure components meet specified tolerances.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints that include Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.
  • Develop GD&T inspection plans and procedures for quality control.
  • Use inspection software to streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Analyze inspection data to ensure metal components meet specified tolerances and quality standards. Use inspection data to identify trends, issues, and areas for fabrication improvement.
  • Generate inspection reports and documentation to track quality metrics and compliance.
  • Communicate findings across all levels of the organization and to outside stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and design teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on metrology techniques and tools.
  • Utilize skills to drive continuous improvement in fabrication process areas.
