Description

NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis. It will be Canada’s first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring products meet all safety and quality standards. The candidate must possess critical-thinking skills with an ability to make decisions under pressure. The individual must have strong leadership skills and be able to adapt in a fast pace, high technology business model. These must be coupled with good communication, organization, and people skills.
The Quality Technician will serve as a cross-functional member of the Quality team and may be assigned to support operations within either the Supplier Quality, Module Quality, Cell Quality or Electrode Quality departments, depending on production needs and organizational priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College Diploma is required
  • Minimum of 2 years of working experience in a fast-paced environment (Manufacturing, laboratory, retail, fast-food, etc).
  • Experience with measuring devices such as microscopes, gauges, computers, calipers, and other measuring instruments preferred.
  • Working understanding of basic statistical concepts and methods.
  • Knowledge of quality control tools and techniques is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Flexible to work varying shifts to support production schedules including day and night shift on a rotating schedule.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints, graphs, manuals, and measurements is needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking skills.
  • Dexterity, physical strength, and physical stamina.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect electrode samples from the production line using laboratory methods to verify conformance to specifications; accept or reject materials accordingly.
  • Identify, document, and report defects clearly; contain nonconforming materials and recommend quality improvement strategies.
  • Operate with an “inspect, diagnose, report, and repair” mindset, ensuring quality standards are consistently met.
  • Perform and document daily, weekly, and monthly equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance; verify accurate data collection and equipment functionality.
  • Analyze inspection data and ensure records are maintained accurately within designated software systems.
  • Conduct inspections involving hazardous chemicals in accordance with all safety protocols and handling requirements.
  • Maintain inventory of reagents and lab supplies; coordinate replenishment with supervisors as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements, utilizing appropriate PPE (e.g., gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, respirators, etc.) and following plant-specific dress code and hygiene protocols.
  • Work independently while maintaining effective communication with team members and cross-functional departments.
  • Complete required documentation, audits, and reporting accurately and on schedule.
  • Ensure tasks are performed in compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the worksite in alignment with 3R5S standards (Right Location, Right Quality, Right Container; Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
  • Participate in required training and demonstrate reliable, on-site attendance.
  • Ability to work within 1% humidity environments for a prolonged period of time.
  • Adhere to general, and position-specific, dress code requirements.
  • Participate in, and successfully complete, all training requirements.
  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is required.
  • Perform detailed daily record keeping and reporting.
  • Perform inspections using hazardous chemicals, ensure proper handling and storage of the chemicals are followed according to our safety standards.
