Description

Line manager: Technical Assessment Team Manager
Salary: £26,000 per annum plus additional £6,000 car allowance
Location: Field based with travel (car owner essential)
Contract: 37.5 hours per week; permanent, full-time.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Basic understanding of MCS, it’s Standards in relation to Solar PV, Battery Storage and Heat Pumps - and all general Scheme requirements (D)
  • Awareness of Certification Bodies associated with MCS and their roles and responsibilities (D)
  • Awareness of key external organisations including a general understanding of their roles and responsibilities (DESNZ, OFGEM, Trustmark etc) (D)
  • Experience in at least one of the main renewable technologies that is certified under the MCS Scheme (Solar PV, Battery Storage, Air Source Heat Pumps) (D)
  • Familiar with basic auditing / inspection / assessment principles based on set of criteria (D)
  • Knowledge of UK energy regulations and government backed schemes (Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), Energy Company Obligation (ECO) (D)
  • General awareness of PAS 2030 and PAS 2035 (D)
  • General awareness of the Competent Person Scheme (CPS) (D)
  • General awareness of Building Regulations related to small scale renewable technologies (D)
  • Understanding of GDPR and how to handle personal data securely (D)

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs, A-C grade including Maths and English (E)
  • Hold a full, clean UK driving licence. As this is a field-based driving role, losing your licence would prevent you from fulfilling the essential requirements of the role and may result in termination of employment.(E)

Responsibilities

MAIN ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travel to pre-booked appointments across the UK to carry out on-site quality verification checks. Most visits will be within driving distance of your home, (maximum 2.5 hours) though some may require occasional overnight stays to complete focused work in other parts of the country.
  • Work from schedules planned by our dedicated team, designed to make the best use of your time and optimise travel for maximum efficiency.
  • Complete several visits per day, typically lasting 45 minutes for a single technology or up to 90 minutes for dual installations, allowing time to record your findings accurately.
  • Carry out basic but structured on-site quality verification checks of small-scale renewable technology installations (Solar PV, Battery Storage and Air Source Heat Pumps) using pre-defined assessment criteria in support of our proactive scheme surveillance programme.
  • Complete the visual quality checks using standardised tools and checklists with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Identify potential installation issues so that we can help installers to resolve them fairly and constructively
  • Ensure that appropriate evidence is taken and recorded, including photographs.
  • Be a friendly and knowledgeable presence for homeowners — answering their questions and helping them understand the technologies in their homes. Escalating to colleagues or your Manager where required.
  • Identify and respond appropriately, to consumers who may be experiencing vulnerable circumstances. Adhere to our Home Visit Commitment, ensuring that every homeowner interaction is professional, respectful, and considerate.
  • Complete simple reports of your findings using a pre-defined digital template.
  • Work closely with the Assessment Co-Ordinator to ensure that they have clear and complete information that they can use to explain the non-conformities that you identify, to installers.
  • Manage your day-to-day communications, including emails, calendar appointments, team chats, and attending virtual or in-person team meetings, to stay aligned with colleagues and maintain accurate records.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our standards and guidance by sharing insights from the field
  • Understand and seeks to fill knowledge gaps by seeking out and engaging in training opportunities.
  • Follow all Health & Safety requirements including effective use of risk assessments, lone worker devices and PPE.
  • This is a field-based role that requires regular driving. You must hold a valid UK driving licence at all times to carry out your duties safely and effectively
