Job Description

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for accurately estimating project costs, analysing tender documents, preparing and issuing payment certificates, and measuring and valuing changes and variations on a construction project. Key responsibilities include cost estimation, variation preparation, quantity surveying, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Cost Estimation:
  • Analyse tender documents, including drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and overheads.
  • Utilize historical cost data, market rates, and industry benchmarks for accuracy.
  • Identify project risks and contingencies, evaluating alternative methods to optimize costs.
  • Variation Pricing:
  • Collaborate with the technical team on construction methodologies and schedules.
  • Provide input on value engineering solutions for cost-effectiveness.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier quotations for competitiveness and accuracy.
  • Prepare variation documents, ensuring compliance with any contractual requirements.
  • Price new items and develop star rates.
  • Quantity Surveying:
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and measurements from drawings and specs.
  • Monitor project costs throughout the project lifecycle, identifying savings and other opportunities.
  • Prepare payment certificates and identify risks of over-payment.
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve cost-related issues.
  • Manage back charge accounts and ensure recovery of costs from responsible parties.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
  • Participate in meetings, negotiations, and presentations.
  • Advise the SQS / line manager on risks and opportunities related to the scope of works assigned.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency in cost estimating software and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., MRICS, PQS) is a plus.
  • 2 years’ experience post grad in quantity surveying.
  • Middle East experience is highly preferred.
